Hi there! I was recently given my contract (via recruiter) from SMOE, just sent in all of my visa documents on Thursday, and this morning received the NOA from my recuiter telling me that the orientation would be at Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon. This news makes me extremely apprehensive being that everyone else on the forums is heading toward the Hyundai Training Center in Yongin for SMOE (as did my sister two years ago). I emailed my recuiter about my worry to which he replied: "SeonkyunKwan university in Suwon is right---(it is FRom SMOE, not teacher)." This is my first time with any kind of ESL teaching and I hope that I'm not being led down a path that's not legit. Any ideas as to what the deal is? Or whether I'm worrying too much over the issue? I'd really appreciate it (especially before I'd be dropping serious doe on airfare)! Thank you so much!

I received the same email from my recruiter. Maybe they changed the center. I wouldn't worry too much. |

Ah, the plot thickens!
Looks like there might be at least three different orientations after all:
-SMOE: in Suwon, apparently, judging from your post?
-EPIK: in Cheollabuk-do.
-EPIK-to-SMOE (referred to as an "EPIK orientation" by my recruiter): at the NIIED in Jongno-gu, Seoul. |

Wait, so you sent your documents this past Thursday (7.30), and received your NOA in the mail yesterday? Did you send your documents straight to Korea? |

What were the dates given for this orientation in Suwon? I haven't even sent in my documents yet (only because they have yet to request them so I don't have an address to send it to) so I know I'll be screwed over by last minute planning and flights, etc. I'm thinking if I get a clear date from most ppl on Dave's about the orientation date then I'll go ahead and book my flight before waiting on my NOA, possibly. |

Oops. I meant to say that I sent my documents express on Thursday straight to Seoul and the email that I got was an informal notice. The recruiter was just giving me the 411 on orientation- nothing having to do with visa issuance yet. Fingers crossed!

The 24th of August is the first day of orientation. Shuttles to the training center are going to be scheduled at Incheon on the 22nd and 23rd, too (so says my recruiter). |
