So, I want to take my laptop with me on a trip without having to carry it on the plane - mainly because it is bulky, heavy and it makes travelling difficult when transferring. Can someone explain to me the process of checked baggage - can I get my laptop boxed at the airport and marked for fragile (assuming a small fee) or do I need to wrap it up myself and then pay for additional luggage? |

If you want it in working order, do not check it. Just deal with the extra weight and carry it. You can check the plug though, that will free up some weight. |

I also hate carrying my laptop, but i just pack my battery, cd drive, and plug in my checked baggage. Most airlines won't take accountability if it's stolen or broken in transit, even if marked fragile.
However, pulling all the extra stuff (particularly battery) can make it much lighter to carry even though it will still probably be cumbersome. |

Hi I think the computer is usually not allowed to be in the check in luggage. You are also only allowed to bring one laptop with you in the hand luggage. I dont know how strict they are with this rule howevever.
"Loose lithium batteries, such as rechargeable lithium batteries and AA lithium batteries for laptops and DVD players, may only be carried in hand baggage. Each spare battery must be packed in the original packaging. If you no longer have this packaging, you must cover the battery contact points with tape to insulate them and pack each battery in a separate plastic bag."
Depending where you travel, you might also have to prove that any electrical device does work. Sometimes they force you to take some photos / start the computer to show that its a normal camera/laptop. |
