I came to Korea in 1995 fresh out of uni. I fit the stereotype of the average teacher. I was a virgin. This is true. No white woman wanted to sleep with me. I was very ugly. I had no friends. I was a distrubed loner. I also had a useless degree. My job before coming to Korea was collecting the shopping carts at the Walmart parking lot.
Does anyone else fit the stereotype? Any other losers out there who thank God that Korea gave them employment? |

I fit that part of the stereotype, but not really the rest. I guess the thread is just a troll anyway? |

I'm being honest. I collected shopping carts at Walmart. True. I was a virgin. True. I had no friends. True. I owe this country a lot. I'd even be willing to join the army.
Not everyone is a sauve and sophisticated babe magnet. |

As I get older, I'm more into honesty. It's easier than trying to be something you're not. |

Silly? When I step out of the shower, I refuse to look in the mirror. I'm that ugly. I'm just glad I found somebody who is actually willing to sleep with me. |

Nope, talking about me getting silly. I'm reading silly things now. I should sleep soon, but that would be the smart thing to do. |

Dude...I am so sorry. I have been blessed with beauty and if that was ever taken away from me I do believe I would make a post like this...after I cried. However, before recently receiving a GEPIK job, I was working as a server and I couldn't afford a pair of $20.00 shoes from Wal-Mart to replace the shoes I was at that time wearing, which had an enormous hole right through to my socks. |

Words too few understand unfortunately.
As for me I didnt fit the stereotype. I'm generally interested in the food, want to learn the language and am prepared for the BS many aspects of Korean life bring.
Yet I'm sure to hate it and rant about it on Dave's so that much I fit well into. Also I held good jobs in the US but at my age to experience level I'm not as employable in this new economy.
Sorry its not a new economy, the original and true word is long standing depression.
On a different subject but still about stereotypes,
Anyone else who served in the military notice the ignorant cycle employers go through. Good times + easy war = free job. Bad times + swing opinoin about bad presidential decision = door slam.
Huzzah for the fighting man / woman.
In the end its just another feather in yer hat as an employer. "Yeah I gots two Marines and a Navy guy workin for me Bill, how many you got?" Or "Yeah thats why I dont hire any of them baby killers anymore."
Douchebags the lot of em. Makes Hagwon work seem appealing. |

I quit the militia and before that, I delivered pizza. I was not a virgin.
How does that fit? |

I first came to Korea to teach (1984) before there was a stereotypical foreigner (Most foreigners in Korea at that time were GIs, so I guess that was the stereotype). |

I like the honesty and humility of the the post but I seriously did not know that this was the "the stereotype of the average teacher". I still don't believe it.
I'm an economic refugee and that's all I'm copping to. |
