It's in Seoul, south of the river divide. New-ish area full of planned urbanity. As for shopping, drinking, etc. you'll do it at where every other foreigner are at, Itaewon just over the river of no-return.

It's nice. I wasn't into bar hopping when living there, but it's the same as much of inner Seoul - everything is a fairly short subway ride away. (That is the difference between living in Seoul proper and one of the outer areas they call part of Seoul).

Like going to Technomart to see a movie in a good theater or buy electronics.

A nice benefit of Songpa from other inner Seoul areas is that Olympic Park is nearby. I had been in Korea 3+ years before going to Songpa, and it was nice to have such a large, open air, green space to walk in. I also liked playing basketball in pickup games with the Koreans there. (They don't play defense for poo)...

That's where I am and love it. Olympic Park, shopping, Technomart, close to the edge of the city so it's easy to get away...it is much less crowded and walled-in than other areas.

I'm used to going to the river up here and running/playing ball.

South of the River and center Seoul are generally more expensive. If you like saving money. Stay awake from the big Three: Apku, Gangnam, Samseoung (Coex Mall). Very popular foreigner districts. More so for Gangnam. Travel to the northern districts like Hoegi and you'll taste the better quality and cheaper prices.
