I need to go to the Thai Embassy in Seoul (near Itaewon).

I can arrive in Seoul at either Gangnam or Dong Seoul Bus Terminals.

Does anyone know:

(1) Which Bus terminal (Gangnam or Dong Seoul ) is closest to Itaewon?
(2) Is there metro/subway access at either Gangnam or Dong Seoul stations?
(3) Do Gangnam or Dong Seoul bus terminals close at night (I'm arriving at midnight and will have to stay at the terminal until subway opens).
(4) What time does the Seoul Metro/subway system start operating?

Any info appreciated. Thanks

(1) Which Bus terminal (Gangnam or Dong Seoul ) is closest to Itaewon?

Gangnam Express Bus Terminal (lines 3,7 and 9) is only a 6,000 won taxi ride to Itaewon. The subway would take about 25 minutes because you have to transfer twice.

Dong Seoul (Gangbyeon Station on line 2) is quite far from Itaewon, but subway takes about 35 minutes.

(2) Is there metro/subway access at either Gangnam or Dong Seoul stations?

See above.

(3) Do Gangnam or Dong Seoul bus terminals close at night (I'm arriving at midnight and will have to stay at the terminal until subway opens).

No idea, but I'm pretty sure there's a jjimjilbang at Gangnam Express Bus Terminal you could crash at.

(4) What time does the Seoul Metro/subway system start operating?

Around 5.30 am, I think.

Thanks mate, great stuff. I appreciate the advice about having to change subways twice (as I'll be arriving with 3 packs and fishing gear - so changing metro lines would be a pain).

Gwangjuboy: I guess you're having a rough day. Google will never replace someone's real-time experience. Good luck.

This should help you get your bearings. Subway website with map and interactives, times, stops, etc..

Silly question: How do you pronounce jjimjilbang? With a stutter at the front? Or a germanish gutteral sound? And what's a Binch? Short for Binchy? I love her stuff too.

The embassy is kind of a pain to get to even once you're in Itaewon. I'd suggest subwaying to Itaewon station and then grabbing a taxi and asking for the taegukdaesagwan. it's up a hill then down a fairly precarious set of steps. Much easier just to pay a couple of chun.

Thanks for the tips. Once I get my passport I'll also need to catch the Airport Limo to the International Airport.

The Seoul bus site lists Airport Limo stops in Itaewon as: Itaewon Crossing, Itaewon Shopping Arcade and Itaewon Market.

But I can't access the bus stop map on my computer.

Can anyone tell me: if the Airport Limo still stops outside the Hamilton Hotel???

Appreciate any advice.

Just once actually: at Yaksu.

However, with all that gear, I would get a taxi just before the embassy opens. Tell them "Hannam Ogeori", which is just across the Hannam bridge from Sinsa Station. Get off just past the big intersection (the first one after the bridge. It has an overpass as well). Cross the big road, under the underpass and take the next right which is just after the intersection. This goes up the hill to the Itaewon Hotel. The Thai Embassy is on the left hand side of this road, before it goes steeply up the hill. It's about 5 minutes walk after you take the right. (Better still, if you're confident, direct the taxi this way to save you the walk. It can turn left at Hannam Ogeori, then the first right will get you there).

I always just say jim-jill-bang, with the first "j" quite short and high - almost a "ch" and the "a" a long sound. It seems to work ok most of the time.
