| I personally agree with the policy of quarantines. I have children. I don't want them catching your illness that you caught while you were galavanting around the globe. A week of quarantine sounds right to me. Nothing against anyone, but swine flu is an airborne virus. |

I was out of town helping my friends and my mom was watching my son while I was gone. Then swine flu hit hard and was spreading to 2 or 3 states a day. I told my mom, don't take him anywhere. Leave him at home. No Wal-Mart. No visiting friends, nothing. She was like, "Sure. The only place we're going to go is church."
I love my mom, but..... I had to explain to her that there is a reason outbreaks usually happen around churches (especially measles it seems). You take a room, shove as many people in it that you can, have them shake hands with each other, pass a plate around that everyone touches and put their germs on, then with catholics you have everyone drinking out of one cup (yes, I know they wipe it off, but still). That's not even counting when you have church brunches. |

You realize that H1N1 is already in Korea, and has been for months...
Also, the virus isn't spread through the air but rather bodily fluids such as spit, vomit, etc... Both of which I usually see on my walk to the bus every morning before work...
Generally speaking, you and your children have a GREATER chance of catching it from a Korean or long stay Waegook than a fresh off the boat newbie these days...
And while I'm not usually a 'knock the K's" kinda guy, at least the Waegooks are probably washing their hands after they use the washroom... |

You realize that H1N1 is already in Korea, and has been for months...

I never wash my hands after using the bathroom. I find the taste of my urine and fecal matter make the food taste that much better. Tonight we're having spicy squid and noodles. Not to mention what might be on my grubby fingers. Mmmmmmm. Now that's finger-licking good. |

that's perfectly fine, so long as you don't think that I will count that week of quarantine as my paid vacation time.
besides, I plan on telling my admin that upon my return I got a transfusion of 100% Korean blood and started eating kimchi thrice a day, so I should be as good as gold. 
p.s. unfortunately I can't play any of these golden games with my Korean superiors, because they share none of the K-traits that are always made fun of on this forum. |

| I am all for quarantines when its applied equally. Unfortunately, its not. Koreans can travel and return to work no questions asked. I know too many foreigners who were not allowed to travel or who were told to stay home after they came back. More than likely if your kids get H1N1, its will be from a korean national. |

actually in fainess that's probably not true.
May have been true in case of bird flu which had an Asian origin, but swiney started out in Mexico and then the US.
Also, Koreans, despite several appalling personal hygiene habits ((lack of) handwashing), and coughing and sneezing into each other's faces).
they tend to travel in Korean tour groups, only eat Korean food and not interact much with anyone other than themselves |

nah IF they travel, they also travel and stick with themselves etc etc etc |

Oh, you had to go there....
Now my head is full of bad thoughts I had long forgotten and shoved into the deep dark recesses of my mind.
Going out to the bars or noraebangs.... to restaurants... even at the subway stations.... I was in Korea over a year, and more often than not, in public restrooms, I would see Korean girls come out of the toilet stall, go to the sink, fix her hair, fix her makeup, and never once wash her hands. I know some do, because the counters are usually covered with water (never figured out how you can make that big of a mess washing your hands) but ewwwww. Come on, you just come from the toilet and you're touching your face without washing your hands.... ewwwww. |

Then, you should be doing all you can to convince the Korean government to move every person entering the country into a secure medical facility for one week. |

LOL!... Sorry to drag up such horrid thoughts on such a nice Wednesday
And to set your mind at ease, most of the men do the same thing (including, in some cases, fixing their makeup... LOL) |
