| I'll go with Rush. They're more technical than Nickelback, but that's not saying much. |

| Nickelback for me. They're far from technical, but at least the singer has a man's voice. |

| It continues to baffle me why Rush generate such extremes of opinion either way. I've only ever heard Moving Pictures, however - but that's their best album, say the critics. It's an okay rock album, bordering on good. It's absolutely not a classic, nor is it crap. |

edit: and Itaewonguy, I'm going to assume you're new to the American music landscape, but the pop charts are actually a measure of how bad music is. It works in reverse, the better a band is, the less likely they are to reach the top of the charts. The more likely they are to induce vomiting the closer they are getting to the top. Hope this helps! |
NO, its actually based on record sales and popularity..
problem is to many haters go on about how crap commercial rock n roll bands are, or how bad the top 40 are, and when asked to name a band who is cool, they always name some obscure alternative band which no one has ever heard of just to try and come off as cool...
Sure there are some singers out there who can't sing! and shouldnt even get air play.. ashley simpson being one of them..
BUT nickleback are a true rock band..
listen to their live concerts, they throw down rock n roll! listen to their unplugged MTV.. they can play!!
they do have more songs than the top 40 hits we know them for..give their hard songs a listen..
nickelback have nothing on BONJOVI though now those guys through it down!! |
Nickelback is not a true rock band. They are an overproduced and packaged band that has made millions on recreating the same song time and time again. I'm not speaking from the perspective of trend following deuche, I'm speaking as a musician. There's no doubt that they have talent, but the music they make is sub-par and adds nothing to the musical landscape. It's produced and branded for mass appeal and to sell the most albums. The pop charts are only a measure of how watered down a musician has made their music in order to appeal to the most people possible.
Rush on the other hand, was a pop band, but they were technically brilliant. Neil Peart is one of the best drummers of all time. Their songs may have had commercial appeal, but that was a different time where music that challenged the listener still had a place in the popular landscape.
If you want to compare Nickelback to another band then Bon Jovi is a perfect example. But, even Bon Jovi was better
edit: and Moving Pictures was not their best album, it was just the album that thrust them into the pop spotlight. It was the beginning of the end for them if anything as it signaled an age of the overuse of synthesizers. Personally, 2112 is their best album. |

| Bassist I think you should listen to the last few albums Rush has done. Especially the last one. They really toned done the use of the synths One of them doesn't even have any keyboards. |

I've heard their newest album and it is definitely a return to their roots. 2112 is by far still my favorite album just because it was a breakthrough and holds a lot of sentimental value for me. Honestly, I like their entire discography. Their are certainly low points, but all of their music had its place. That's why I'm amazed that someone could even think to compare them with F*CKING NICKELBACK!?!?!?!?!?

Cool, thanks. I gave it a listen today and I'm afraid my view is the same as with Moving Pictures - can't understand why anyone would love or hate this band. And yeah, the singer's voice is kind of annoying too. |

| Completely understandable. They are certainly a band where people either love or hate them. Musically, they were extremely talented and had some amazing songs, but it is always the singer that's gonna make or break the band for somebody. Geddy Lee was great in my opinion, but I can see what others wouldn't like about him. |
