hey all, it's been a while since i, ummm, had any pl's on the side, so i'm curious about what you think the risk is. i recently posted an ad on another site and have had some replies and interview offers, but i've heard some stories about people being busted over the internet like this. have you heard of this happening? and what precautions do you take?

The best precaution is to follow the law and never use a public location to solicit ... but that's me.

Personally, I'd never take on a private that I've heard about or been introduced/brokered to, from online. I've talked to some of those private brokers and they were some of the shiftiest and shadiest characters around, moreso than the shadiest director or recruiter that I've met. In addition to paying you 25-30,000/hr for privates that they are billing 80-100,000, I got the feel from some of them that they would report you in a heartbeat, if you gave them any grief and they were short of cash, looking to make the reward from immigration.

If you do your own private networking and limit who knows about it, and use caution, your risk factor goes way down, compared to opening yourself up to the online world.

Your asking for it sarah.

You are soliciting illegal lessons over an open medium (the net) that anybody can monitor...nicely done!

Perhaps you heard of the word disctretion....

If you do want pvts then there are safer ways to get them.

Gotta agree.

What the hell are you doing?!?!?!

NOT worth it.

If you really want to do privates, perhaps word of mouth through friends is the best way to go.

I did one private in Korea and the only reason I did it was because it was a friend of a friend and the money was AMAZING!!!!

The paranoia involved with teaching privates in Korea is ALMOST never worth it in my humble opinion.

The trick when asked is to use a lot of double negatives. Say:

"I don't not not not not not not not teach privates, if that's what you mean..." that means that you teach privates.

If they figure it out, say that you miscounted your nots, and say it even longer the next time. Nobody will ever know...

Seriously though, the worst thing anybody can ever do is look for privates online and then try to do them at Starbucks. People who don't get caught usually teach kids of a family they know and go directly to the house.
