Has anybody ever brought a cat along to Korea? My girlfriend and I are in the process of job hunting for teaching positions in Seoul and both of us are wondering what the process for bringing a cat would be, or if it is even possible. We would both prefer not to give away Oskar the cat, as anyone who's ever had a pet would understand.

Anyone got info? I'm sorry if this topic has been brought up before, but I couldn't find a previous thread.

No problemo, very possible. Why don't you check out www.animalrescuekorea.org, they have a lot of posters with this kind of experience on there. Good luck!

I would not have done it six years ago, but I returned with my family and two cats last month to Busan and am surprised at how pet-friendly Korea has become in so short a time. Even corner-shop supermarkets have cat food and litter. You can order all sorts of cat toys and playgrounds and accessories on home shopping. So far as I can tell, apartments have a don't-ask-don't tell policy on most pets. Try not to take a job with a tiny apartment if it's two of you and a cat. There is more to Korea than Seoul!

Your biggest problem is getting the cat here. We flew Northworst, which robbed us of $150 for each cat but lets you take them under your seat. That's a good thing, as your cat will be less stressed if you are nearby. Make sure the cat and cage are within maximum size and weight. Shop around with airlines and ask about pet policies. Korean immigration requires forms saying that the cats have had their shots, which we got from the animal shelter, and that they are visibly healthy. Other than this, keep Oskar!

Excellent news! I'll check out the link you provided.

So at this point, I'm wondering what to bring and what to just buy in Korea. I'm thinking just bring a little bit of food and a favorite toy or two and just get all the other essentials there...

And basically, you're saying it's not very difficult to get the vet documents saying the cat has its shots and everything?

Maybe I'll make a short documentary film called Oskar goes to Korea with the little camcorder I just bought hahaha.
