AFAIK, there are more reports of this; this one, they decided not to sign on, and thus can legally speak about it. A GAG order imposes.....? Right. Silence. Thus, you probably wouldn't read about it now, would you?
Even if it were an isolated case, in the ever-litigious and fearful US, the threat alone is enough. |
I retract my statement a bit after reading the full report that talks about documented wide spread cases nothing on a massive scale but enough to warrant investigation i think - especially considering this happened in Macbooks.
I do understand that Apple is trying damage control, they want to protect the brand image, however i think they needed to use delicacy not brute force for this and backlashed on them. It's a huge folly to make the Liverpool family an enemy when they simply wanted a refund, or maybe just give them a free replacement iPod and they go home happy.
On a side note, a US gag order has little enforcing power in International arenas, and certainly seems absurd in this Liverpool case since there'd be no way to really prove that leaked information originated from them.
This + the issue with the Microsoft case seems like someone is using the litigation system a bit too readily over at Apple. These recent moves don't seem very "Apple" like to me. Steve needs to step in before there's a larger PR scandal that does permanent damage to the brand. |

And therein lies the problem with Apple: Steve Jobs is ailing and every time he isn't there, the Apple goes a bit rotten. |
