my sassy girl is awful. just awful. the american re-make was even worse.
Japanese movies: Ichi the Killer and Audition are two that spring to mind.
Korean movies I watched recently and so am able to remember their titles: Ne Sarang is worth checking out. Daytime Drinking is mildly amusing too, though a bit budget.
Special mention goes to the Swedish movie, Let the Right One In - not Asian, but a masterpiece which everyone must watch. |

Jus off the top of my head...
Dirty Carnival - Korean gangster movie
Shinjuku Incident - Jackie Chan movie, surprisingly good
The King and the Clown
Voice of a Murderer
Hard Boiled - gun-fu action with Chow Yun Fat
The Killer - see above
Police Story - great Jackie Chan movie
Zatoichi
No. 3 - if you can find a copy with English subtitles - Korean gangster movie
Hero - Jet Li
Once Upon a Time series - old school Jet Li
Kick the Moon - comedy with gangsters
BTW I'm not obsessed with gangsters...just alot of Korean movies that are decent revolve around them |

Japanese movies: Ran, Seven Samurai, Rainy dog, and Charisma are all pretty good. There are a bunch of other great ones, but those spring to mind. Mostly, I'd say watch some Kurosawa, Ozu or Miike movies.
Korean: ????? I haven't watched any Korean movies in a long time. Park Chan Wook has some good movies, and then there are a bunch of okay romantic comedies. I'm sure there is a lot more out there, but I haven't looked too hard.
Chinese/Hong Kong movies: 2046, ShangHai Triad and Throwdown are all pretty good.
Chinese/Hong Kong Kung Fu movies: A touch of Zen, Fists and Guts, Dreadnought, Prodigal Son, Fist of Legend and Lord of the WuTang(Kung Fu Cult Master) are some of my favorites. |
