Anybody have any idea what a certificate password is, or where it would be found? KB gave me a I.D. and a password. They also gave me a card with a big list of numbers on it. To log into the Internet Bank the website requests a "certificate password". What is this? |

I did this too. You need to get that password at the bank. Bring a Korean coworker if you can. Everytime you bank you need that password and you also need that card with all the two-digit numbers - the website will ask you for a different set of numbers on that card every time you do a transaction on the site. |

I have my paperwok from the bank and the plastic card with all the 2 digit numbers. I'm just wondering where this "certificate password" is located. Is it on the plastic card? Is it hidden among the paperwork? I'm guessing it's not the same as my I.D. or password. It must be something issued by the bank. The bank told me I would need the 2 digit plastic card, but said nothing about a "certificate password". |

I went to KB Star and got his figured out. A "certificate" account allows for transfers/remittance on-line. Since I am an E-2 visa holder I am not supposed to have one of those accounts. With my account I can check my balance and pay local bills, but I can't transfer funds. Well that was my whole reason for having Internet banking. Oh well. |

To use internet banking with KB, as well as KEB, you need to have an electronic certificate. You sign up for it when you set up your internet banking for the first time. You can store the electronic certificate on your hard drive or a flash drive. You use that certificate to log into your online banking. |

Thanks. Yes, I went to KB Star and asked about the certificate (I even had them log into the website to show them what I wanted). They said I can not have because I am an E-2 visa holder. Apparently this is the same as the ATM cards. E-2 visa holders are issued different cards from Koreans. An E-2 visa holder's ATM card will not (is not supposed to) work outside of Korea.
Maybe other people have had better luck, but they will not give me an electronic certificate for on-line banking.
So now I am trying to figure out another way to get money from my account while I am out of the country. |

You sign up for the electronic certificate yourself on their website. I did it two weeks ago and I'm also on the E-2.

On the left side of the page, not the far left where it's brown, click on certificate center to sign up for your own certificate. Then follow the instructions. |

I found it, but as usual I'm an idiot. There is a section for "resident registration no.". I assumed this would be my ARC. Wrong! I thought it would be the number on the plastic 2 digit card. Wrong! I thought it would be the number on the Internet banking sheet they gave me. Wrong!
I'm lost. What is the resident registration no.? |

Your resident registration number is the number on your ARC. Make sure your ID is the one you picked when you signed up for internet banking. It should also be on the sheet they gave you. Also make sure you remember the password you chose when signing up. This one is not shown on the paper. If you forgot, then you will probably have to go back to the bank and change it. |

Thanks for the help.
I gave it a try several more times, but everytime I enter my information (reg.no., etc..) an error screen pops up and then it goes back to the homepage. I can't even ask the bank for help because they told me foreigners can not have certificate accounts. Go figure.
Anyways, thanks. |

Banks Cite Non-existent Law on Expat Cards

Some banks issue the debit card without any restriction on foreigners while others limit the amount of money a foreigner can withdraw with the card to 10,000 dollars on a given trip out of the country. Many banks simply won't issue any debit card to foreigners.

Banking for Foreigners: Truth and Tricks Revealed

The reasons you hear so many complaints in English papers and blogs is not surprising: the lack of English language skills at the branch-teller level; the lack of knowledge of banks on the market size of the English-speaking population; unfounded stereotypes based on isolated cases that couldn't be any more irrelevant to banking. All these combine against this sub-segment.... |

Well the truth is what actually happens. I went to the bank, I even showed the teller the log in screen, pointed to the "certificate" registration and asked how to register. She told me in clear English, foreigners are not allowed a certificate account. Now maybe if go back to a different branch and a different teller, I might get a different response.
A friend of mine lost his bank card and went to the bank for a new card. The girl was in the process of issuing him a new card when the manager told her she was giving him the wrong card. He said foreigners get different cards than Koreans. We all know this. A foreigner's Korean bank card is not suppoed to work out of the country.
Anyway, I've tried to setup the certificate myself on-line, but no luck. As stated before, I'm an idiot and probably doing something wrong.
Peace out. |

I just remembered I think you need to have ActiveX on your computer to use KB's online banking. Not sure if that's still true as it was a while ago for me. It's why I only did banking at the computers at my school, because ActiveX is a nasty way to mess up your computer. |
