|
|
I recently read my book "On Writing" by Stephen King for the 3rd or 4th time. It is great if you can appreciate the wisdom of a hugely successful author who doesn't take himself too seriously.
For aspiring writers such as myself, pick it up and read it. It will make you feel better.
Steve is not a big fan of the adverb in direct speech. He likes the word "said".
"Go to the woodshed." Bob said.
"Why?" Emily said.
"Cuz I need wood.' Bob said.
NOT
"Go to the woodshed." Bob said quickly.

I will go first.
"I think I have the runs." he said flushingly. |

"My stomach is making hunger noises," he grumbled.
"Things are great," he said swimmingly.
"Additionally, I like to touch myself," he touchingly added.
