I think that article is a bunch of bull. Exercising is the ONLY thing that makes me thin. If I don't do it, I get fat. I eat about the same whether I exercise or don't, because instead of "rewarding myself" for a workout (an idiotic thing to do), I think "I just ran my butt off for half an hour so why would I throw that all away in 5 minutes of eating pleasure?"

But yeah, a lot of people just eat too much.

Thanks Yaya for that article.

I took a few months off from work last summer and packed on the pounds; that summer was the heaviest I've ever been.

I started a desk job and fearful of not being able to naturally drop the pounds, I started going to the gym about 4 days a week. I powerwalk for 30 minutes and then do sit ups, and stretching after. The thing is, I've loss no obvious weight besides a few pounds (after 5 months at the gym!). After reading that yahoo article, it all makes sense; I need to better regulate what I eat.

If you download the torrent of the Biggest Loser Australia 2008, you'll see a guy with a heart problem. He was only allowed to WALK. He wasn't allowed to lift weights at all. He walked 30 minutes 3 times daily, and.... he lost around 50kg. He lost 10kg in one week! Just by walking and eating right.

Geez Picasso, I'd love to know what it is you eat! Do you live off bibimbab or what?

Do tell!

I don't have salt in my house, neither do I have sugar. I don't even have cooking oil in my house! I don't eat anything on my bread if I do eat bread. I don't eat cookies/biscuits or chips/crisps. I don't eat chocolate. And I don't eat all that much Lotteria/Pizza School/Burger King. And I don't drink as much as I have. And I have gym membership.

I eat bulgogi, dakgalbi, wangalbi, bibimbap, kimchi jjigae, naengmyeon....

I've got a Homeplus nearby but usually am too tired/lazy to walk to it during the week, so I grocery shop at a small little place. So cooking at home is mostly rice, kimchi, mandoo, bulgogi... same stuff, really.

I don't eat ice cream, cookies, cakes, Western fast food or any of that other crap that's on every corner. But then, I never did in New York either. I do have a weakness for overpriced, high calorie fancy chain-store coffee, though.

Dunno. I just eat what's around and easy. Some of the anju crap Koreans always order is pretty awful for you, but I'll eat that too.

Like I said, I'm not exactly putting effort into this.....

OK, 3 of those items I've never heard of. Can I eat the galbi and the latter one on my own, or is it one of those things I have to take a few people with to finish?

Thanks! I'm too scared to ask for anything other than jjigae or whatever in case it's intestines! I did once just order the cheapest dish in a dodgy restaurant...and it was a big pot of beans. What a waste of money! All the rest on the menu turned out to be cow insides. Aaaaaaaaaaaah!

dakgalbi is spicy stir-fried chicken, it's not a one-person dish but something you share with friends.

naengmyeon is a bowl of cold noodles with sour ice water broth or spicy sauce (mullaengmyeon or bibimnaengmyeon). I think it's pretty healthy.

Galbis are mostly a group thing, yeah.

Anyway, lighten up about what's in the food, man. And this is coming from a former vegetarian, but it won't kill you and you might find out you like something you never suspected. Anyway, Korean friends are fantastic in the food department. They know how to ask for things that you'd never think of, and certainly aren't on the menu. I was at a dak galbi place with a friend a couple of weeks ago, when suddenly he asks the waitress to throw some cheese on top of it all. I would have never suspected that was even an option.

OK, I've had all of these before a long time ago, when I actually had colleagues! Had very nice duck a few times! I've had some of that cold brown noodles...ugh.

I'll just take Tupperware to some BBQ place and make it all, and take it home for the breakfast. I'm really bored of kimchi jjigae! And it's like they started putting chillies in it! Ew!

Well, when I'm cutting weight, I simply cut off all carbs except for small amounts of whole grains. I drink tons of water. Eat as bland as possible, which means fresh veggies and meat without any sort of seasoning, which means I don't eat most Korean food. Eat mostly fish, chicken and beans for protein. I lost weight without starving and draining myself and felt pretty good. If I really wanted to be healthy, I would probably stick with this diet.

Since June, I have experimented to see what I can take and what I can't live without.

I have decided to reintroduce rice into my diet. I just had half a takeaway tub of Chicken biryani. I've bought 3 tubs today, so that will be worth 6 meals.

I also had lamb curry and 3 rotis (bread) at lunch time in Itaewon. I am going to eat rice, and other meats, mainly chicken, more often than I've done recently. I need meat regularly, just fish isn't substantial enough.

I have noticed recently I don't feel as physically strong as I need to be. I still plan to cut out all junk food. But rice, chicken and sometimes lamb are back on the menu.

With the new exercise regime, I don't mind if I put on some extra weight by eating these foods. As they are not junk food, I can rest assured that they are good for me.

What's interesting is I could only finish half a tub of chicken biryani this evening. This is proof I've managed to train my stomach into needing less.

I used to eat half a tub of chicken biryani with 4 slices of bread every day!

I am steadily nearing a point where I know what my body needs to function properly, instead of feeling physically diminished. Laughing

Our school, as luck would have it, offered a free computerized body muscle/fat check-up today. I am at 20.3 percent body fat. I have lost 3 kgs in the past month. According to the computer, I should lose another 6 kgs or so. That's my goal for the next 3 months.

In the last few days, I've started to drink 3 glasses of milk everyday. My body used to take in lots of margarine, biscuits, chocolate, excessive amounts of bread/rice etc.

Because I am eating sensibly, my stomach wants something to go in there to replace all of this absent food/drink.

I've just had my snack, 2 big glasses of semi-skimmed milk, a banana and about 22 fresh dates.

I've just read about some studies which show people that drink 3 cups of low fat milk a day, tend to stay leaner than those who don't regularly drink low fat milk.

I didn't know about that, but I've begun to drink more milk anyway, because I feel I need it.
