|
|
My former school is harassing a family member who teaches in South Korea for the money they paid me for my salary. I was very ill and in the hospital and the school fired me and wants the pay back and airfare. The school also cancelled the visa while I was ill.
I am out of Korea now and the school, in Seongnam, is stalking and harassing this other family member for the payment. What can be done about this harassment? Should the translation of all the school has done to both of us be given to the Korean embassy or contact a lawyer in Korea for harassment? The family member has no ties with the school save for me having worked there. |

A lawyer would be costly and would result in nothing except maybe satisfaction. You or your family member will not get enough monetary compensation even if you do win to make it worth while. We are not in America.
I'm just curious as to how they found out about your family member's contact information. If its just by e-mail, simply block them. If its over the cell phone, simply block the numbers or change the phone number. If its face to face, that is really strange that they would know your family members address and be willing to travel there, but it that case, i would just suggest yelling at them. Or opening the door buck naked with a martini glass and inviting them in to talk about it. (If she is a woman, get a dirty co-worker to play the role.) |

They had his address because I initially stayed with him prior to being hired. They harassed and stalked him at school and took the dismissal notice to him and his principle to give me.
They ignored the doctor and hospital administrator who said I needed to be in the hospital and instead refused to register me for insurance and I had to pay the bills myself. This is a public elementary school. |

public elementary school? have the mysterious family member call the Local and/or Provincial Office of Education that controls the elementary school and tell them to get the harassing school off the family members back. |

That story is ridiculous, but there are some Korean's like that. I understand you had a need to take time off, but it just goes to show. Those 4 sick days are just in theory. They fired you and want you to pa them back? or did you quit?
OO is right. Call the school board, call the police and review your former contract. Even if you did pull a midnight run, they have no right to harass a family member. However like I said, I would never give details to my boss about anyone else, no numbers, etc. I had a similar situation living with someone else at first, they only knew the Dong where I was staying in, it worked fine on my ARC too. All it says in Mokdong. I don't even live in Mokdong. |

I'd tell them to screw off. If they continue, then call the police.
And if I were your family member, I'd give the principal of his school one hell of a bitching-out. I wouldn't care about losing my job there, either. I'd let it be known that their actions of allowing the other school to do that was over the line, and I have no intention of working there past the contract date. |

In Korea the family is all connected. Your brother has to save face and pay for your misdeeds. |

Nice theory. The reality is that there's no law requiring that. There is, however, a law against harassment. |

I thought public schools would be the best place to work. Well, I've worked at a couple of hagwons and no problems. Now, life is full of B.S. and it's a public elementary school in the same area. I wonder if it is the same school. |

Make a website exposing the owner and his school. Bad PR can make things change in a hurry. |

it's a public school........i dont think additional negative PR would have an effect when most citizens already believe that they are inadequate |

burn down the school and then turn yourself in, drunk and angry, demanding that everyone understand your unique situation. |

Go back to the school with a bag of money, bow deeply and say "Choesong hamnida. Choesong hamnida, wonjongnim, choesong hamnida" Then put the money at their feet and prostrate yourself in a deep bow with your forehead touching the floor. It's the only right thing to do. |
