|
|
Hi guys and gals,
I'm going to korea in a couple of weeks - for a long while - and wanted to bring my 3G handset to korea as I know it works with my UK sim there.
However, I was wondering if I could purchase a 3G sim (contract) in korea with a cheap phone, but then use that 3G sim in my UK 3G cell? Would it work or do they do some crazy lock out stuff?
If anyone has any experience I'd love to know!
Thanks! |

I don't think that will work.
You can't put Korean SIM cards into other Korean phones and have it work, so I don't see how putting it into a foreign phone is going to work.
Also, the only GSM networks in Korea are for ROAMing. If you are a high roller then by all means, ROAM.

that's annoying as my 3G handset IS an LG... and I did know of someone a few years ago who unlocked their latest korean handset to use in the UK with a UK sim... but vice versa.... I'm guessing it doesn't work |

korean telecoms will only support the phones that they sell. so your phone can not be put onto a korean network. Unless you roam. |

Whoever "unlocked" their Korean phone probably also changed the firmware on the phone so that it will work outside of Korea's network.
Since there aren't too many people that do that sort of thing, no one knows anything about it. |

My family store runs a cellphone store near Seoul. Recently KT changed the rules for E2 visa people so don't need a deposit now, same as LG was, so can just receive bill monthly not have to pre-load call money.
KT phones cheaper at present, new from 100,000 won.
SK still has a 200,000 deposit system. |
