I am looking to buy one of those small dishes and subscribe to a service. Which one is best for western style programming, news etc.? What does the whole system setup cost (dish, installation, subscriber plan)? Any websites I could check out?
Internet TV is not an option. Wish it was. Thanks |

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are almost no options except for skylife. I have it. It sucks, but I still pay the thirty bucks a month to get CNN and BBC and discovery. Other than that, you've got yourself about a hundred Korean channels and one or two Jap channels. |

Thanks for the info. The website says they have a couple of different receivers, an HD, PVR, and Intervative receivers. Besides the cost, what's the difference? I assume you must have the HD receiver to receive the advertised HD channels or can you get the HD channels but just not in HD format?
Also, just in the off chance someone actually knows the answer to this question, I live in the uni guesthouse where all apartments are occupied by teachers so if we went in on this together, is it possible to have one sateliite with multiple tuners or receivers and if so, will we be able to watch different stations at the same time? Will the quality be degraded? |

It's not only possible, it's a prerequisite. They'll only hook you up if the whole apartment wants it hooked up. Now, take that with a grain of salt...I'm sure there are always exceptions, but that was what I was told when I hooked up. Also, they want you to sign a three year contract. If you don't agree to three years with some collateral, the fee per month is higher. Like I said though, this is just my experience. and by the way, it gets worse all the time, they just cancel out a channel that you like and you turn on the tv and it's just gone. They can do whatever they want. |

Well, it does have Olive and Star Sports and some other English-ish shows. At least 10 channels with English at some time of the day. The other 90 channels are not worth it.
The cheap option is just as good, if not better. Unless you like Discovery and Animal Planet, BBC and CNN International. |

My work said they canceled my phone land line... It still works, but they never ask me to pay the bill anymore. They must think it's been disconnected all this time! |

I've had Skylife for years. I found a dish attached to my new apt's balcony way back when and a friend had a decoder box he didn't want. I took the decoder and hooked it up to the dish and it worked!
For 5 seconds untill it realized the dish wasn't related to the decoder card.
Damn!
My friend called and sorted it. I wanted it for sport really, rugby and such on Star Sports.
Then last month the signal went AWOL. I was gonna cancel it because Star Sports now SUCKS for rugby. The service guy came over and said that the decoder was past it. He said they would give me Skylife HD with a new dish/receiver for 2 thousand won LESS than I'd been paying because I had allways paid on time or something.
I think it's around 30 thou /mth.
So, I like Discovery and History HD. But most of my TV is downloaded. If I was single I wouldn't have anything but internet. |
