So I have been working with a recruiter who sent me a contract from a school...but I have never interviewed with anyone from the school. Furthermore, the way he has explained it to me...is that after I arrive in Korea, we would go to the Authority office to get my E-2 Visa. This is the email I got from him...
"After I get your signed contract form, I will check them and send them to director in korea so that they could process your position in their department. Also they will arrange your apartment when I send your form to them. I will get the references for you so that you could get more information from them.
Basically, when you get to korea, first, you unpack your bagage and take a rest for about a day and then you and korean national - probably one of your coworkers will go to the authoriy office to get issue your E-2 Visa. And then, you will get some time to learn how to teach, and then you will be a teacher!
Have a nice day and keep in touch.
I will call you back. If you have any questions, please feel free to call anytime."
This would be my first E-2, and all my documents are already in Korea...but I have read everywhere that I need to interview with the consulate in the US and get the Visa affixed here.
Am I thinking too much in to this? I mean, I'm sure he would know what he is doing, right? He has been more than friendly, took care of getting my documents from my first recruiter sent to him without me having to do anything, and he is in contact with me at least once a day. I mean...they are paying for the plane ticket...so where would it benefit them to do something wrong, and how could this be screwing me over if I am not investing anything but time?
I am really excited about this...but I am just making sure I don't end up stranded in Korea and on the hook for a plane ticket back to the US and no job. |
Is this with one of the public school groups, like SMOE or EPIC or GEPIC? Still, no interview? Weird......
Where is this school located? |

If I heard him correctly, the school is Topiary Institute in Juonju City. He said he works with both Private and public schools. The recruiter lives/works in San Diego, but there is an office in Seoul (which has my papers).
This is how I found him...

I'm just confused...if this is a scam or is fishy....where are they benefiting? |

If it's a private school, then there is no way to get around the interview in your home country. |

| Everyone on a first E2 must have an interview. The recruiter is wrong. Don't come to Korea without your E2. |

| Have you ever heard of this before? Like...is this a known scam or something? Or is he possibly just new and doesn't know what he is doing? I mean...the guy has an office that I could easily drive to and tear up if he screws me.... |

tell him that you will get your e2 before getting a ticket. This is to protect your own interests. |

He called me today and told me that he is pretty sure that I can do that in Korea...but that he will ask specifically about that to make me feel better. I am hoping that maybe is just new and that this is all legit...and that my superior researching skills is just saving my ass? I am standing firm on not leaving the country until I have an E-2..and I am thinking that once I send my contract to him, that I will get my visa issuance number and he will have learned something new.
If it is a scam...I still can't figure out where they are profiting....but I taking everything you guys says to heart and I will not leave the country without an E-2 on my passport. |
