I'm gonna be in Tokyo for about 1 and a half days.
I'm staying at
Hotel
Ikebukuro Kita-guchi No.1
ADDRESS: 2-50-5 Ikebukuro Toyoshima-ku
Anybody familiar with that area? Are there subways/trains near that area?
My plan is to check out yokohama chinatown, shibuya, harajuku, shinjuku, akihabara and maybe ginza.
Based on my location, is it possible to hit up all these areas?
am i in a convenient location? how much cash should i bring for 2 days? is visa all i need? |

Difficult to see how you could go wrong.

I mean have a rough plan to do those things, but just go with the flow.
Keep in mind it will be blistering hot there this time of year. (I once learned that the hard way).
Also at places like Shinjuku subway station, a lot of people end up wasting time and getting hopelessly confused/lost because it does involve a degree of complexity. |

I'm not a Tokyo expert, but I know enough to say that you'll be just fine. Ikebukuro is on the main loop that goes around the city. You'll be able to the places you listed without any problems.
Note that the subway system is different from Seoul's, but it's relatively easy to figure out, in my opinion. And when it doubt, just ask someone. Almost 100% of the time they speak English. And when they don't, just say the name of your target station and they'll point you in the right direction. |

Just got back from Japan the other day. I had no interest in Tokyo so was only there a couple of days, well actually only one because apart from hanging around Shinjuku, I took a day trip to Kamakura and checked out the Japan surf scene in Endoshima.
That's a lot of stuff you want to see in one and a half days, it's a massive city and very hot at the moment.
My guidebook suggested seeing Shinjuku for a taste of modern Japan. Didn't check out the famous fish market or see any temples as I got my fill of that in Kamakura.
You don't need a visa for Japan.
Take heaps of cash! Can be done on the cheap like eating in 7-11 stores but it's quite an expensive place but why bother being cheap? it's a time to enjoy yourself. |

Mayorgc,
This thread is old, but I'll just lend my 2 cents anyway. The simplest thing to do is take the Yamanote Line. All it is is a line that runs in a circle so it's very hard to get lost and you'll be able to get to most of the places you wanted to visit. |

and get the "Tokunai Pass"....just 730 yen for unlimited travel (per day) on JR lines as long as you don`t stray too far out (within the 23 wards) |
