You know, there's already enough lying and misleading by the advertisers, but when the news becomes one big pile of BS, it becomes really revolting.

Then when posters continue misleading (we're suppose to the line where the medias lies stop, not the messengers carrying it further) other readers it becomes even more bizarre and depressing.

There's a friggin' difference between "9 out of 10 consumers intend to buy" and "9 out of 10 consumers who are interestedin the i phone intend to buy".

I'm waiting for the day when people (including myself) realise that this whole internet, information "free ride" that we're on is just a crock of misinformation and lies. We dealt with TV (most of us still do) for 50 years before people clued in that it is a total waste of time and energy...a real sapper. Will it take another 50 years before I and you and all the others not yet convinced keep opening this and that page every morning to read lines like the above only to find out it's a complete lie?

Are you all as sick of this as I am?

Sorry to change the subject so soon.

Korea's smart phone market is estimated to be 300,000 phones per year or something in that range, just FYI. Not exactly a huge market....

1) It's a poll taken off a website for smartphones. What kind of people visit those websites? Enthusiasts. So those numbers you can assume are inflated. Your average consumer is not represented by phone junkies

2) It's a website poll of 844 hardly hard figures from a decent sample size.

3) only about 53% said willing to buy unconditionally (psychos). 39% conditionally based on price and other factors. Which really doesn't say much because I think we're all willing to buy if the price is right.

4)The poll choices are

1 Buy unconditionally
2 Buy given right circumstances
3 No interest
4 Or "watch the market situation"

Given those poll options, even on daves most of us would poll 2. Even though i think the iphone is a piece of gimmicky crap. I wouldn't select number 3 or 4. Those poll choices make no sense. Those poll choices pretty much lump anyone who has even heard of an Iphone to choose poll 2. Between,

I'd buy the latest phone if they had the right price versus I have no interest in it whatsoever

the choice is obvious. But the poll interpretation is skewed and makes the claim that these people would actually even intend to buy the phone. All those in category 2 have different price ranges and tolerance levels. I'd be willing to buy the phone if it's $100 usd could be under poll 2.

Too much to talk about, ill just leave it at those 4

Applications I guess?
The application market is much larger for the iphone/touch, plus there probably aren't a lot of english developers for the korean application market.. the best you're probably going to see are apps for koreans to learn english.

because the touch is relatively popular here there are already quite a few korean apps for the iphone..so for koreans it might be more or less the same.

Who knows what people want to use it for. But the iphone/touch appstore has something like 65,000 apps on it.. far more than I think any korean app store.

A lot of them are crap, but there are a far wider range of apps available for the iphone/touch. things that integrated with western/english websites, services, etc. For example you probably won't find the mobile facebook app on the cyon app store. There are quite a few games I'm sure you won't find there either. Numerous language learning apps that aren't Korean/English, is skype on the cyon store?
etc etc etc..

I don't have access to the cyon app store, so I can't see what is on it, but I would imagine there are entire categories of things which might not be there simply because their app store isn't a global appstore.

Tens of thousands of apps.

Want to play the Sims 3? It's on iPhone. Keep track of your workouts? You can do that on iPhone. I use an app that logs all of my spending so I can see where my money goes and budget. I'm sure everyone can find an app that they find useful.

How many of those are in Korean? Exactly. Just think about software. All platforms. From Games to Applications. What percentage of English developed software is translated into Korean? 5%? 10%?

Are you expecting KOREANS to write tens of thousands of Apps for the Appstore? Even if Koreans write the Apps for the AppStore, do you honestly think they will write them in ENGLISH for foreigners to use too?

That's great that the AppStore has tens of thousands of Apps in English, but only a few dozen in Korean. That'll really drive the Korean consumers to the cell phone stores.

Hey, how did Wal-Mart work out in Korea? I bet EVERYONE thought that was going to be a runaway success. Low priced goods, one stop shopping? EVERYONE shops at Wal-Mart in the US. How did that fail in Korea?
