I have two classes of students who are about to finish Let's Go 2 but aren't quite ready to go on to Let's Go 3. They've only been learning English for a year & some still have trouble with working independently on the written tasks.

Any suggestions for a book we could do to bridge the gap between Let's Go 2 and Let's Go 3? They've already done Up and Away (1 & 2), Mr Bugs 1 & 2. They like the Let's Go series... but just wondering if anyone has some recommendations for a good, fun (preferably short) book???

Do you know the "New Parade" series? A lot of people hate teaching but sometimes my kids find them easier. Maybe teach NP2 before starting LG3.

Have you been doing the supplementary materials, the grammar books and the readers, for Let's Go?

Did you know the Let's Go series has a picture dictionary? It's the best picture dictionary available. Better than the series in my opinion. I've stopped teaching the other books and am teaching only from the dictionary with a lot of classes.

We do Gogo3 in between. It's fun and short, lots of pretty pictures and games. Easy to teach, too. Also, we used to do "Ellis," which is a computer-based one. It seemed to work really well, as the kids who did Ellis seem to have a very good grasp of English.

Thanks for the input guys! I've just been doing the Let's Go Student Book and Workbook and they do Oxford reading books (not Let's Go) with the Korean teacher, so the boss won't go for the extra Let's Go Readers. After doing Up and Away with them, I'm keen to stay away from a solid grammar book like the Let's Go one. I would've liked to have done the whole Let's Go set, but y'know what wongjeongnims are like... "too many books, too expensive for the parents." At least I have the teacher's cards and teacher's book Very Happy

Some of the students have done Gogo 1 & 2 (over a year ago) so I'll have a look at Gogo 3 & definitely check out English Time as I've heard good things about it on other book threads.

I'll be handing my classes over to a new teacher in just three weeks (argh!) so I'm keen to leave her with a good first book to get to know the kids with and one they won't struggle with too much and cause a headache.

Question re New Parade... what age group does it target? I'd always thought of it as a pre-school/kindy book. I'm looking at elementary school students, Korean ages 8~11 in these classes.

Thanks again!

My hagwon has started many of the classes on the Hip Hip Hooray series, published by Longman. It has heaps of phonics, lots of review, and the kids seem to like the stories and pictures. When I first started using the book I didn't know quite what to do with it, but after a while you realize it's good to use a book that goes at the right pace.

I would guess that Hip Hip Hooray 2 would bridge the gap between Let's Go 2 and Let's Go 3.

As far as I know it can be taught do the same age group as Let's go is...

Although it does kind of have a "younger" feel to it. A lot of my classes go back and forth between NP and LG.

waterbaby's classes are short though (between 20 or 30min) I would avoid new parade, as it often takes about 20 minutes to do the craft and then it's time to pack up before the kids have had a chance to practice the target language.

Well, I brought some suggestions to the boss today and she's decided to get almost ALL the classes now to do the Let's Go Grammar & Listening books. Thanks for your help!

You're right... huge jump in difficulty between Let's Go 2 and 3.

I faced the same problems last year when I taught out of that book series.
