i recall reading on this board some time ago about being able to get at these funds at orientation. can anyone confirm or deny? the timeliness of getting flight reimbursment funding will determine my ability to blow through a lot of money when I get to Seoul ahead of orientation or not.

as kenny powers once said, 'dollar, dollar, bills yall.' i'm hoping to go baller status here for a bit.

Why don't you ask someone who might know the answer, ie. your boss or the district office instead of people on here who have no input or authority on the matter?

You will get the refund of the 1.3 air fare allowance from your school after you have a bank account opened and after you get your ARC card from your local immigration office. Could be 3-4 weeks, or maybe on the first pay day?
Maybe you had better plan to not spend all your spare dollars you brought over at the orientation?

to borrow your insanely rude and humorless tone for a moment, why don't you refrain from giving unsolicited, superfluous advice in response to a specific, reasonable, and on-topic question?

I believe it states that you will get it in your first check. Of course, that's to say that you will have your ARC done by then.

Hagwons work on a different system of airfare refunds.
In EPIK SMOE and GEPIK public schools contracts you get the airfare allowance paid by the public school you are working at- as I said earlier. The school has to get the payment sorted for you,and you are dealing with government paperwork here ...so no cash on arrival from hagwon directors ! You should get the 300 000 won settlement allowance near to your arrival time though.

Ya, hagwons are individuals so it depends, you can work it out in your contract. My school is paying for my ticket up front, so there is no refund to worry about.
