Samsung and LG will be totally pissed at KT.
Great.
I won't buy one, but it'll sure as hell give LG and Samsung a kick up the ass. Bit of competition. |

Same old story. "It's coming to Korea but there's no release date."
I won't believe it until I actually see it on the counters at the cell phone shops. |

Even if it does come out soon, I've had terrible luck getting a cell phone through any provider other than LG. I have to imagine getting an iPhone out here will be about as easy as getting voting privileges on an E-2. |

The iPhone is worthless here in Korea. The iPhone is only as good as the Apps.
1. Writing Apps in Korean is probably the last thing on US developer's minds.
2. For Korean Developers, writing Apps in English is probably the last thing on their minds.
So, you have Western Apps that Koreans can't use. Or, the Apps aren't available for Korea (Tubes, GPS, etc...) Then you will have Korean Apps that are shoddy English, or no English at all.
By the way, the top 10 Apps on the iPhone/iPod Touch are always DOMINATED by games. Productivity and software my butt. Koreans can play touch screen games on an Haptic or Omnia, they don't need an iPhone to do that. |

Koreans will make apps for Koreans, not the few thousand weigookin that may buy an iphone. I have my itouch. I use the Korean subway app (which is in English) daily. When I was in Japan, I used apps for Japan that were in English.
So what if the top 10 are games. There are 50,000 apps. Not all are going to suit your needs, but I have found some to make my life a bit easier. |

Yeah, I still beg to differ with you on this. Almost any Korean that can afford an iPhone is an well educated Korean with probably pretty good English skills. I don't know what your talking about.
If you want to see productivity apps, just click on the productivity app button. You will see quite a bunch that are useful.
You sound like a Korean Telecom company telling the consumers what they 'really want' by not giving them a choice. Plus the iPhone is like a (nintentdo DS, GPS Device, TV, PMP, Compas, netbook, and more, etc) all in one. I think that is one of the reasons why they are keeping the iPhone out. Not because of any of the reasons you mentioned though. |

Here is an interesting take on the mobile phone market in Korea and the debut of the iPhone in Korea. |

``Korea is often mentioned as an IT powerhouse, but those who know better, like early adaptors or power users, would say that the country represents nothing but one of the most closed mobile markets in the world,'' said Jang Jeong-woo, the creator of the popular tech blog, IT Gadget Impression (www.alonecrow.com). |
This how I've seen Korea for quite a few years. The penetration of cellphone and internet use is very high........but the way 99% of people use that tech is a fair bit behind the curve.
For the power user and early adaptor, Korea is a frustrating and expensive place to live. |
