Ok, I know this has been asked before, but the search function is so awful, I could not find any of the other threads about it.
How is life in Incheon? Looking at it, it looks close to Seoul, on the beach, the third biggest city in Korea. It looks like a good place.
But I never really hear it mentioned as a hot spot or a popular spot. Is there a downside to it? |

Rather boring, drab, dirty.
The beaches? Dirty, boring. It's a port city, so a lot of sailors. But yeah, boring, boring, boring. Also dirty. |

Yeah, I did read that it's a "gritty industrial city". On the map it sure looks to be a great location though. Even has the airport. |

Yeah, it can be boring but that depends on what you are looking for. I was bummed to find it takes me almost 2 hrs to get to Seoul from New Songdo City SW of Incheon. That pretty much means no job for me. I do not teach English.
New Songdo is growing and the offerings are improving slowly. The Sheraton just opened and it may have one of the best burgers I've ever had. The service is world class too but at a price. There will be a new Pub/Lounge opening out here too in the next few weeks. When it opens I'll be free to say more. There are a few Paki and Nepali joints with killer food in the area.
Bicycle riding is improving in some ways and not others. MTB trails are having stairs added so fast it makes my head spin but access to good road riding like Daebudo and the airport Island is improving. Bike paths galore in New Songdo and they are sequestered from the idiot drivers.
All in all it's coming along. The new bridge will make a trip to the airport 20 minutes from Songdo instead of 90+.

Yo crockpot..........in honor of the big festival out here in new songdo they are now running a direct bus to seoul, the M6405 I think hits 3 spots in New songdo, dongmak, and then makes a straight shot into seoul. I have yet to take it, but my co-teacher says it will hit Gangnam in a little over an hour and that is it's last of 3 Seoul stops. Are you living in New Songdo? |

Hey Red,
Yup, been here for 18 months now and it's likely you've seen me about. That is good information about the bus for the Fair. I will pass it on to the folks on the project since they did not know either.
There is the 1300 but that runs from here to Seoul Station but it stops about 8x. Depending on traffic it can take 1 - 2 hours. Not too bad but it leans towards the 2 hr mark during rush hour and I'm not cool with up to 4 hours/day on a bus for work when I have plenty to do as a good house husband. |

I'm reasonably satisfied with life in Incheon. You do have to be creative though. Bupyeong and Yeonsu have a pretty decent expat crowd; there a re a few good areas for hiking and you are not far from some decent islands with some really nice hiking. Guwol dong has good nightlife as well from what I can tell.
I've always managed to stay busy, but threre are times I do get a little wound up, not so much for the nightlife, but for a nice quiet river to go fishing, or hunting. I'm not much of a city boy. |

Incheon is boring and takes too long to go to Seoul. The 1300 bus only goes to Dongcheon station in Namdae-gu (unless they changed it). |

I took a bus through Inchon on the way to the airport (read: the blog people seem super-pissed about) and saw three dildo shops, and a guy fixing phone wires without harnesses - just balancing on the wires like a Disney cartoon. |
