I looked and didn't see a thread, was hoping there might be a sticky.

There are SO many Apps on the iTunes store, it's a real PITA trying to sift through them, and Apple's SEO for the App store blows, so........

I thought I'd take the opportunity to make a post in the forum for the first time ever and see if anyone else has found some good stuff after stumbling around the Appstore:

#1 Evernote

(this app is a must have, just for general productivity for me, and the desktop companion prog has an awesome screen shot clipper). I use it all the time.
Just a general "plug" for Evernote.

The rest are just randomly found apps that can be used in an ESL classroom

Games

Pass Phrase (Nice Catch Phrase style game)

Fantabulous (Best version of "Taboo" I've found)

Tongue Tied (Lite) This is a nice variation of Taboo with different scoring)

Snap Words (Very nice, but the words are for advanced students only)

Buzzword (Electronic "catch phrase", interace copies orginal game)

Buzzword Frenzy (Another "catch phrase variant, high level vocab again)

Word Party (Lite) Taboo Variant for kids, nice sound effects)

TruthOrDare (Spin the bottle/Truth or dare, some of the dares are...crazy)

Bingo! (Bingo!25) Paid, and free version of bingo cage, cards can be downloaded and printed for free at http://www.valup.co.jp/iphone/Bingo/index-en.html )

MotionX Dice (Free) Paid and free version of electronic dice)

Language

ABC (Simple alphabet charts with audio)

ABC for me (3 Full color Ebooks - Fisher Price Animals ABC, 123, and France trip)

Toungue Twisters (100+ TTs with audio)

JV Idioms (100+ Idioms listed alphabetically)

Looking forward to see what others have found, and also about experience using A/V cable to output video to Projector/TV.

Thanks

Have you connected your itouch to a projector in the class? If it is possible, this would be a great tool.

That's what I'm thinking. Can you connect an iphone to a projector or large screen TV?

What advantage is there to this over what I'm already doing? Right now I have a laptop connected to a 50'' TV and internet.

There are thousands of free Flash ESL games available.

Google images can show my students a picture of anything/anybody.

CD's and DVD's can be played.

Youtube etc is great for the students to let me see what singers/actors they like.

It looks like it is possible, at least to a TV. I'm sure there is some way of doing it with your PC also.
Eamo, you are right though, all those things easily done on a PC. I guess one plus would be portability, and the use of apps from Apple, current or future.

Here is an article I found online.

http://berna.typepad.com/iphoneandkids/2008/12/how-to-connect-your-iphone-ipod-touch-to-tv.html

How to connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to TV

Our DVDs get scratched too quickly, so we put movies that we purchased from iTunes and our own home movies on iTouch, connect it to TV and play them from the iTouch. No more scratched DVDs! For information about how to copy your own DVDs to iPhone, click here

There are connectors, av cables from different vendors for connecting iPod Touch and iPhone to a television, and they are cheaper than Apple's connector. However, after reading on Amazon all sorts of incompatibly problems that they have, I decided to get the following connector from Apple Store and it worked well for me:

Apple Composite AV Cable $49, http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB129

After this has arrived, I have followed the following steps to play iPhone/iTouch videos on TV:

1. I connected the "audio and video RCA outputs" to the back of my TV. They were all color coded, so it was easy. I connected my iPhone to the "iPhone connector" part of the cable.

2. I selected 'AV' option on my TV, so that it shows the input coming from iPhone, not cable TV. At this point I thought I would see my iPhone screen but I was wrong. I just saw a blank screen until I played a movie or a video clip. If you are unsure do the following step and come back to this step.

3. Select a movie on your iPhone or iTouch and play. At this point you should see the movie on you TV. You can play with your TVs zoom functions to get the best viewing experience.

I did not need to, but you can also play with video settings of your iPhone to set some preferences. For this, on an iPhone go to Settings -> iPod and view the settings under "video". For iPod Touch, go to Settings->Video to access these settings.

My experience of plugging my Ipod Touch into a Tv is, that it only outputs the video and maybe photos. The actual display doesn't output.

Mine is a 1st gen so maybe this has changed with the new interations.
