I was just wondering if hagwons typically pay for their foreign teacher's dinner meal and/ or lunch meal? What about at hagwons where the teachers don't always work a full eight hours every day?
At the hagwon I work at, we work M, W and F from 2:30PM to 9:15 straight through with only 5 minute breaks and 15 minutes for dinner (so not much time for dinner anyways). T and W we go to another hagwon-like situation (a hakshil) that the boss of our hagwon owns. So I understand not getting a meal stipend on T and Th, but it seems to me that the hagwon should be paying us a meal stipend for our M,W, and F meals. Other hagwon teachers have said that their hagwons either supply a meal for them or give them a few thousand won every day for their meal. Are they just really lucky, or is that the usual case? Am I being unreasonable for thinking that the hagwon should pony up the cash for our dinners M, W and F? |

I think it is not normal for your hagwon to give you a meal or money for a meal. Maybe if you teach kindergarten then you can eat the kindergarten food. In public school you have to pay for your lunch. I have been here 5 years and this is the first I have heard of a hagwon providing meals every day. |

I get a light meal/snack everyday during my first break. It is something simple like gimbap, pizza, chicken, or bread and jam. |

When I worked before at a place where lunch was served, it was served to the teachers to, plenty for all. But if I chose to go outside of school, that was on my dime. |
