After our contract ends in February, my boyfriend and I are planning to spend several months travelling through Asia. I hear that it is common to ship luggage home by freight (which would take 3-4 months or so) and that this can be done cheaply.

We have about 150 lbs of luggae to ship home. And every place we have contacted for a quote has given us prices between $600-$1500.

I know this can be done... can someone point us in the right direction?
Right now we are considering cancelling our travel plans because we cannot afford the shipping nor can we afford making a stop back to Korea on the way home to pick up our luggage.

Any info/help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Airline cargo is quite bit more expensive than freight cargo I believe?....

Anyone know of any freight companies?

If your stuff can fit into certain size boxes, you can ship some of it home at the post office for shipping. It's really reasonable (to NAmerica, anyway), and is the cheapest I've heard of.

Something like 20kg (44lbs) for 50,000won? (Someone will need to confirm this)

You might consider using a few shipping methods to get stuff home instead of just one.

See rates here: http://www.koreapost.go.kr/eng/service/service01_06_05.jsp

Thanks...

I did hear I can ship up to 44 lbs through the post for about $50. But we also have huge 30" suitcases that we would like to ship... they will probably be empty for the most part.. but we can't take them with us and we don't want to just get ride of them since they were pricey.

No. This is sending your stuff like it was freight.

yes, it's possible. My gf and i live in changwon, near busan, and we shipped our things through a Korean guy in Busan who speaks perfect English and is a customs broker. It was really easy. we shipped about 250 pounds together and it was only $300 total. here's his info.

Sechang Customs Brokerage- Int'l Customs Clearance Consulting (for foreigners)

17-7, 4 Ga, Jungang-dong, Jung-gu, Busan, Korea (4th floor, Useong Bldg.)

Tel: 82-51-469-4360
Fax: 82-51-469-4364
Cell: 82-11-9322-3477

His name is Mr. Jo. (Korean - 조 남 인)

Hope that helps. It only took about a week or 10 days to get from Busan to Seattle.

Hi Summer33NY!

Any luck with figuring out what to do with your luggage? I'm in the same predicament.

Here's another one

Email them - they do pick up from anywhere in Korea. I know because I've talked to the guy.

Do you guys ship from South Korea?

Yes, by plane and ship. Where are you shipping from and a description of your shipment.

Thank you,
