The White House keeps insisting that they "welcome vigorous debate" on the healthcare reform bills making their way through Congress (five in the House; one in the Senate, I believe). They've repeated this claim so often it's become a sound byte on national and local news. But is it sincere?

In addition to promising to be a uniter in the tradition of Lincoln, Barack Hussein Obama has called for greater transparency in government. But where's the Windex? The glass seems to be permanently fogged, as in they've put tinted windows on those French panes in the Oval Office.

Consider this: today at a townhall meeting in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, not one of those asking questions had any criticism for the President's plan (which is a misnomer, since there are six of them in committee). Then, in what is becoming a disturbing pattern, the Prez calls on a girl who reads from a note obviously written for her. She's a plant; her mother is the former chair of the Obama campaign in Massachusetts. Of course, the Prez ran with it. But she wasn't rude--the worst sin you can commit in the liberal view of things--or even testy. She was just nervous fumbling over words and phrases she hadn't written herself. Talk about your stage prop--shameless tactic.

Then Press Secretary Gibbs gets on NBCNews with Matt Lauer, his running buddy, and deplores the "cable news" coverage of the health care issue (re: FoxNews). So now Fox has become the big, bad boogeyman apparently. Never mind that the total viewership of the network is considerably LESS than the number of polled Americans in recent weeks who are opposed to the healthcare talking points being floated by the administration and the nature of the bill itself.

But FoxNews isn't looking the proverbial gift horse in the mouth because it knows that every time the White House alludes to them, people who might otherwise not tune in are doing just that just to see what all the fuss is about. It's called human nature, not a vast right wing conspiracy with black helicopters.

Few Democrats are willing to appear on FoxNews network shows, which backfires for them because they aren't getting their message out to those who aren't in the choir. And it allows loose cannons like Glen Beck free rein. It also smacks of selective public reporting. To her credit, Senator McCaskill of Missouri did appear but then she is one of the few moderate Democrats who haven't demeaned the grassroots uproar. Gibbs has repeatedly been invited to appear on The Factor but won't show. Instead he sends his bag man, the ever smarmy Bill Burton.

Obama also had the audacity--or is it deviousness--to proclaim at the meeting that the AARP "endorses" his plan. Actually, they don't--not yet--because they have serious misgivings about several key provisions including one involving the time period for getting non-formulatory drugs into generic form. The director of their legislative agenda acknowledged as much on The Factor today as well.

So, keep up the good work Obama and Chicago Redux Crew. The more you malign the protesters (those "radical" silver-haired middle income citizens) you will rile them up. And if the film "Grumpy Old Men" taught us anything, it's that you don't mess with guys who go ice fishing.

Any guess what the White House will try next? They want the eventual bill out of committee by September 15th. Think they will meet their deadline? Is pushing for an early deadline a good idea given the current backlash? After all, seniors of all stripes don't like to be hurried, especially where their money and health are at stake.

Slate.com's editorial board (all Obama backers) have even called for Pelosi to be ditched and for the Prez to fire or reshuffle the Young Turks he's got roaming around the Oval Office.

Whatup?

2009 Press Releases

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 22, 2009

HALLIBURTONS GEM TOOL OFFERS A CLEARER PICTURE

HOUSTON
- Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) today announced the release of the GEM Elemental Analysis tool, which offers rapid and precise evaluation of formations with complex mineralogies. As the newest addition to Halliburton's portfolio of formation evaluation technologies, the GEM tool offers operators a complete elemental analysis solution for complex reservoirs and complements Halliburton's existing cuttings evaluation service performed while drilling. When combined with Halliburton's real-time data acquisition software, it offers customers onsite and remote visualization of formation elemental data quickly and accurately.

"The innovative system design allows the GEM tool to provide the most precise quantitative understanding of complex carbonates and shales for our customers," said Jonathan Lewis, vice president of Wireline and Perforating, a Halliburton product service line.

The GEM tool improves the measurements of magnesium in carbonates and aluminum in clays and shale - until now the most difficult elements to measure but among the most important needed to describe the reservoir. Also available for the first time in the logging industry, the GEM tool measures manganese, a common constituent of carbonates and sheet silicates. Use of these three additional elements - magnesium, aluminum and manganese - to determine mineralogy improves estimates of porosity, saturation, permeability, detection of swelling clays and rock mechanical properties. Operators obtain more accurate estimates of their reserves, design optimal completion and stimulation programs, and maximize production.

The GEM tool's attachable cooling system and insulating flask allow the tool to run for long periods downhole operating in conditions up to 350F and 20,000 psi. Fewer trips downhole reduces operating costs and improves tool redeployment time.

Combining the superior sensitivity of the GEM tool in the vertical sections of wells with Halliburton's LaserStrat cutting evaluation service in the horizontal sections provides operators with an understanding of reservoir mineralogy for the entire well. The two services can also be used in conjunction to improve geosteering of horizontal sections.

Halliburton is committed to offering its clients the best elemental analysis solution for the accurate understanding of complex reservoirs, whether needed while drilling or during openhole logging operations.

Was going to go point by point, but I'm lazy so I'll summarize your points and discuss them. Feel free to correct my summaries if I've misunderstood your views.

1. The Obama administration claims to want a full debate about healthcare reform but dismisses fox news for their coverage:

There is a difference between debating the merits of a system, saying nazi and socialist over and over again and making up claims. A valid criticism would focus on the cost effectiveness of the plan, the value of the free market and other factors which make the current system better than the proposed one. Instead, people leap to the conclusion that Obama is going to kill their grandmothers and Sarah Palin's baby.

2. Obama had a room full of plants at his town hall meeting who only supported the bill:

I'm a bit behind on my news, and I haven't seen this meeting or read much about it. If this is true, it's pretty disturbing. I would advise you, however to take a look back at the previous administration's town hall meetings.

3. The protesters at the town hall meetings were exercising their freedom of speech and were acting like responsible citizens:

There is a difference between asking questions or voicing criticism and shouting down speakers, charging the stage or chanting the pledge of allegiance. Crazy leftwingers and truthers did this during the last administration, but I still think they're idiots despite their political affiliations.

As a daily peruser of Slate.com, and being especially fond of editor David Plotz, this comes as quite a shock. Where do you get this information? I only ask because I practically inhale Slate.com's "News and Politics" content every morning, and have never come across any of this.
