Is getting alcohol someone doesn't have access to the best gift? How do you know they will like it? |
I just know that they like wine. His favorite is Chteau Mouton Rothschild but it's way too expensive for me. |

I've seen it before. It's located at shinchon (next to hongdae). it's right next to dakgalbi place behind the hyundai department store. it's a small store that sells all foreign stuff. They have few decent priced liquor but not all. Can't remember the name. |

Maker's, Knob, or any other "small-batch" bourbon. Basically the only whiskeys that Koreans know are Jim, Jack, and Johnny. |

If it were me, I'd bring some Johnny Green. I've found it in Bundang at two different locations, but the liquor stores in Seoul swear it's not available. I haven't found it here yet. |

any malt whiskey.
The only ones i've seen are Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie and the Hilton in Seoul had Ardbeg but for about 13,000 a glass. I had a dram at Christmas but that emptied the wallet! |

I am coming over in 2 weeks and want to make the most cost effective choice for bringing over some nice liquor.
Are any of these available? If so, at a decent price?
Wild Turkey (whiskey)
Bulleit (bourbon)
Don Julio (tequila)
Herradura (tequila)
Pyrat (rum)
Bombay Sapphire |

Bring a bottle of Patron silver. It costs about 150,000 won here in Korea. |

Bombay is definitely available and it shouldn't be that expensive. Wild Turkey is available but probably pretty expensive. The others I have never seen and besides Don Julio have never heard of so I doubt they'll be available |

I live in an area with a considerable amount of Western products and amenities, but...
I've yet to think of any kind of alcohol - besides certain very specific wines or microbrews or smaller, regional brands like Van Gogh Vodka - you can't get here, except maybe certain flavors of vodka. I mean, I haven't seen pineapple vodka yet... but who really needs three dozen flavors of vodka anyway?
Then again, I'm not a big rum or scotch drinker. I'd imagine there were a lot of different kinds of scotch unavailable. Seems like good tequila can be expensive here (and they water tequila down in the bars - moreso than anywhere I've ever been back home). Whiskey seems like it can be considerably more expensive than back home (in stores - about the same in bars).

I've seen Wild Turkey, Don Julio, and Bombay Sapphire for sure - and they're pretty ubiquitous here (where I am anyway).
I'm not familiar with the other three alcohols, so I can't say off the top of my head.

Have to agree with gakduki about the rum. It's impossible to find any dark rum over here. I've been searching for years with no luck. How I long for Captain Morgan's friendly face... |
I Love Cookie maybe? I've bought Captain Morgan there before. Maybe it was a fluke, though, because I honestly don't drink rum and I only look at the alcohol selection there occasionally - I bought the CM in June, and I only bought it as a gift for someone. |
