Hello, First post for me here, and just a bit curious about learning the Korean language.

I wanted to know if anyone one of you had a list of where I could find a list of Korean cogantes/loan words with the Chinese language and a list of loan words used in Korean coming from the English language.

Any idea if such a list exists? Thank you.

As far as english words in the korean language there would be far to many to list. YOu could fill half a dictionary lol. Learn Hangeul and just read korean and youll see english words written in korean everywhere.

There are just too many Sino-Korean words to make a handy list. At least 60% of Korean vocab.

Handbook of Korean vocabulary, Miho Choo and William O'Grady. University of Hawai'i. It's a resource of Chinese/Korean words. Extremely useful as a study aid once you get to the higher levels of Korean language proficiency.

Aww, that's a pity. It seems that the Chinese vocabulary and the Korean equivalents are not very similar. They don't even sound the same. Oh well, I guess knowing a bit of Chinese won't really help much in terms of learning Korean.

I'm no expert, but the influence of chinese on korean strikes me as analogous to latin & english. You can get at the roots of a lot of the more formal terms.

There are tons of borrowed english words. Koreans talking to Koreans sense out each other's education level by how many they sprinkle in. Once you know which english words are commonly understood its quite possible to communicate in pidgin with Koreans who claim they know no english. Basic korean isnt all that difficult either.

Look up Konglish on the internet for lists of words borrowed from English. There are a few.

I've been making my own list to help teach my students. An easy way into learning Korean or vice versa.
