I just arrived in Busan and there is only one other foreign teacher at my school. Just wondering if there's anyone else who's new to Busan and would like to grab a beer/explore the city? I'm getting pretty bored! I'm in the Namcheon area.

I'm not in Busan atm, but I used to live there.

Go to the subway and go for a night out to Kyunsung University area or Pusan National University. They are the main areas where foreigners hang out in Busan. There are a number of western bars in these areas and the atmosphere is always great on a Saturday night! Heundae beach and Gwangali are also good places to try. Just take a walk and when you meet a foreigner ask them for directions.

In Kyungsung U try Vinyl Underground, Kino Eye or Thursday Party, in Pusan U try Basement, in Gwangali try Thursday Party which is right on the beach.

pusanweb.com is a good website too

good luck, any more questions just ask

If you're feeling adventurous and maybe a bit sleazy try going to Texas street...across from Busan station. Lots of Russians and Phillipinos in addition to Koreans. Just make sure to watch yourself - it's a bit of a dicey area

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm not really up for going to the bars alone to be completely honest though. I have no problem meeting up with people for a beer, coffee etc. but being a young woman getting drunk at a bar by myself is not that appealing.

Like I said, I'm just getting a bit bored. I was hoping to find some people that would be up for going for a hike, going to the beach etc. I can do these things alone of course, it would just be nice to have some company!

I hear Kino-Eye near Kyung-sung Univ is pretty decent. They also have myspace, google it up if you're interested.

There's this bar near Heawoondea beach which is always packed with foreigners. It's on the ground floor and wide open to the street. Not a bad place to go alone and talk to strangers. (The name escapes me atm, find the GS25 near the aquarium and look around, you won't miss it)

And here are some places I liked going alone near the Namcheon area.

- Namcheon Catholic Church. It's next to KBS. I hear this is the 2nd biggest catholic church in SK. Not a single soul there when I visited. Nothing much to see but was a truly peaceful place for sure.

- Mt. Geumryeon. The mountain you can see from anywhere in that area. Take a cab and go to the top, should only take you about 10-15 min.
The view is fantastic and there is this ancient chimney kinda thing they used to use for alarming the neighboring cities when the Japanese invaded.

- The heawoondea aquarium

- The UN cemetery (Near the KS Univ)

- Local fish market (Behind MegaMart)

Fuzzy Navel is the name of the place, and they have great tacos. If anyone needs help around busan, I'll try my best. Been here about 6 months and finally started getting used to this place. Just PM if you wanna hang out or anyone for that matter.

The only scary time I had was with a Christian lady who made an assumption. My apartment was just off Texas street and she recognized me. Yep. I walked past Spy Girls, Manilla etc on the way to and from work. A sinner making money to buy his dinner. That and dodging
passed out drunks going to my 6:30 am class.

Anyway, there's a pretty good Chinese restaurant around there.

Hey, I've been in Busan for about 4 months now. If you want to go hiking I've hiked Mt. Jangsan a couple times now. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. If you want to go for a hike sometime send me an email at fan1024 at aol dot com. I would love some company on my next hike. Also I get to haeundae beach about once a week and know a couple good places down there if you want to spend a day at by the sea.

Hope all is going well and your getting settled into the city.
