Bogus patients, also known here as "nylon patients," who check into hospitals unnecessarily mostly after car accidents, have long been a headache for local insurance companies, even with numerous crackdown attempts in the past.
But the government says it is going to adopt a new method to weed out the fakes.
Starting Aug. 28, hospitals will be responsible for keeping track of their patients' outdoor trips, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, Friday. The new regulation is part of a revision to the Automobile Liability Insurance Law.
Hospitals failing to provide the information to insurers and government officials will face a fine of up to 3 million won ($2,430)........ |

| So they are gonna turn hospitals into minimum security prisons. Way to put more pressure on the already over-worked health-care staff. |

I forsee a lot of faked records.
This would probably put several hospitals out of business.  |

Have you ever had to stay in a Korean hospital? I have.
I wouldn't call them over worked. They spend a good deal of their time chatting with each other, not about work, and Internet shopping. |

| You may have experienced low work-ethic in hospitals, and I'm not disputing that. What irks me is that initiatives like these don't generate more jobs, they just give more duties to staff already in place. |

| Maybe I am not understanding the Korean system well...but wouldn't the hospitals be the last people wanting to report these types of patients, as they(hospitals) are the ones collecting the insurance money? I cant imagine too many hospitals keeping tabs on patients who decide to take a stroll down the street with their IV, or anyone else. Seems to me its patients like these with their "extended" visits that account for at least a decent portion of the hospitals income. |

I don't see that at all. You would still be free to wander around wherever you wish. Go to the 7-11 for some smokes if you want. The only difference is that the hospital will be letting the insurance companies know you were well enough to leave, a fact I'm sure they would love to know about car accident "victims" (you know, the ones faking it to get blood money compensation). |
