The article said that she "rescued" 65 female prostitutes. What does rescued actually mean? She bought each one a condo and set them up financially for life? |

P.O.S.?? How on earth can anyone label her as that?
She's doing something she believes in to help others live a better life.
I can only applaud and say the world needs more like her. |

I'm leaving on the 29th to work with a similar organization, and I love how this woman says:
"I see them as treasures. If I was stuck in their position, I would want somebody to come get me." |

I bet McGee probably indoctrinated them with the beliefs of Christianity. Nothing is free, especially not help. |

Some of the women were forced into the lifestyle when their impoverished families sold them into prostitution, some for about $12.
"Women are trafficked in from the villages. A lot of times their families need money because crops have failed, a flood destroyed their home or a loan shark is pressuring them, McGee said. |
I don't condone the sex-trade and human trafficking. The article just made it seem like these girls are sold into the sex trade for so little money. If its so cheap, why don't people just go into the poor villages and buy their own slave instead of renting one in the city?

The 12 dollar figure is probably an exaggeration. The figures that agencies like hers throw out there are almost never very solid.
One website that I was on recently said that 60 percent of men who go to Thailand, will participate in the sex industry and they do not give a source for that figure. Some of my friends think that number is too high, others think that it is too low. You would probably have to define "sex industry" before you can really guess at the figure's accuracy.
Are they considering restaurant like "Hooter's" part of the sex industry? What about lingerie shops? Video stores with an "Adult" section? It can be a complicated question and the body of research on these things is still rather small.
Still, if so much as one child is sold for use as a sex slave, that is too many, so if these organizations feel that they have to bump the figures around to move people's hearts, I will think that's sad, but I'm not going to judge them for it. |

Presumably most of these people will be going back to their own countries (where slavery is illegal). What happens to the slave then? Besides which most people just want a quickie and not some stranger hanging about their place 24 hours a day. Plus the relevant authorities would probably get involved for a payoff or worse...could be a whole lot of reasons. |

There are levels of poverty impossible for most of us from the west (maybe all of us) to ever understand. The idea that I can buy a 15 year old for $100 is a pretty terrible idea to think about. |

It really has to end. It'sick just to think about. The world must start protecting its children.
I really believe that we are on the cusp of a revolution. I could be wrong.
However, I'm usually not wrong.
I think it's time to start taking names, and putting them against the wall and shooting them.
I would start with pimps who turn out children for a profit. |

You mean the parents, then we can move the children to orphanages where they can wait till they are 18 before becoming prostitutes.
Still, a nice stab at a complex problem that nobody seems able to solve. |
