A thought experiment for you all:

If your father killed someone would you be complicit in it or report him to the police?

Of course the devil is in the details. Let's just say he ran over another business man he hates out of rage. If convicted he can go to jail for a very long time. For arguments sake we will say there is very little chance of the police ever convicting him while alive unless you report him to the popos.

What do you do?

Would you be complicit in it? Would you report your own dad? Or....maybe some other option?

I don't think I'd report him or turn him in, but if I was asked to testify, I wouldn't lie in court.

Family is family.

I might since dad is long dead.

No, absolutely not, family and friends are real. I'd never hurt them.

Jesus said that a true believer will give up his family and possessions to follow truth.

can you clarify this statement for us non-Christian people? Maybe you can provide the proper context and whatnot so I don't misunderstand it.

If the truth were the other business man was cheating scoundrel then it would be his own fault for as the Bible says a fool is his own ruin and his justice will come swiftly and surely.

It also says you shouldn't kill, but I think there's a few loopholes in there that the really super true believers can use.

Having said that, if it was reversed and the opportunity presented itself I would go after my father's killer myself(after learning kung-fu of course). Hopefully we live in a society and would provide justice rather than blind rage and blood fueds.

Back to the original situation, I'd tell mum. She sorts those things out. He wouldn't be allowed out of the house for at least a week.

Naw. Unless I thought he might kill someone close to me. He probably had a good reason, knowing my dad.

Doing what's right and police shouldn't appear in the same sentence. oops.

This is why I think the document itself is bogus as it's full of contradiction.

'A fool spends his money and will be left with nothing.'
'A fool shores up his money thinking it will save him from calamity.'
So, which one? Give it away, or keep it? Since they are both wrong and I have no choice but to choose one I can only take it that I am a fool regardless and for merely being alive.

I'm probably gonna get a lot of smack for this, but I'd probably report it.

If he really felt bad for what he did and knew it was wrong, then of course, I'd try to fight for him to get a less harsh punishment. If my Dad is a big schmuck, then I couldn't care less about blood ties.

personally I wouldn't do it. If a police officer asked me any question I'd just not talked to them. If they approached my dad to ask him questions I'd actually act as his lawyer for the time being and tell him not talk and incriminate himself.

My dad hasn't given me a good life. That is to say I've lived in poverty my entire life because of his shortcomings and suffered for it but whatever this life is, he gave it to me so I feel some kind of primitive instinctual obligation to help him live and that means not letting him go to jail. It would also make my mom (who is a crazy Japanese person) sad and hysteric so not having to deal with that is an additional bonus.
