I called the pension office and found that I have no refund coming, yet worked for 2 years at jobs which took deductions for the pension plan.

I have waited a long time- 6.5 and 5 years- to claim this money. Does anyone know what the time limit is?

The guy at the office also said something about a private pension scheme.

Any ideas? This would equal about 5 million won.

Thanks

Yes, there is a time limit.... when you die. Sorry, shouldn't joke with you, but did I make you smile? Just a little?

Ok, there is no limit, because it is supposed to be there until you retire at 65 or whenever.

There might be some private pension plans, just like they had private insurance companies. Up til recently, if the school was small enough, they didn't have to use NHIC, but I don't know about pension. Do you have any of your paperwork (slim chance) from back then? If not, try to contact the schools directly. If the pension office doesn't have you, it means that either the school used some weird private pension plan or they just stole your money. If the schools are still around with the same owners, you can take them to the labor board.

Sorry, there might not be much you can do.

For new people reading this, you should check with the pension office after a few months to make sure the school is paying for you. Some schools pay into pension and taxes every 3 months so don't freak out if you check after 2 months and it's not there.

It did make me smile- my morning smile!

I actually worked for 1 big school, a smaller one- both with many employees- and 1 indep. one with only 3 employees. Still strange none paid- strange, but totally believable here.

Thanks
