Good point about Tiger being both Asian and American. Much like Anthony Kim and his Rider Cup heroics. I think both are more American in their world view than their ethnic bloodlines.

Yang will probably take US Citizenship right away. That or get double eyelid surgery.

He was better on one day, but he's not a better player. Not by a long shot.

Did you guys see the U.S. coverage? The commentators made a huge deal about how he was the first "Asian-born" player to win a major. How it was 8 AM in Korea and Seoul should be going crazy... how he has lifted South Korea.

Anyway, his 2nd shot on 18 was clutch. Better than Tiger? No but I don't think anyone thinks this. Better than Tiger on that day? Yes.

All well and good, but what does Y.E. stand for? Yeong Eun? Yang Ee? Yoon Eup? Does anyone know what the Y.E. stands for? And why he doesn't use his Korean name?

They said his full name in the coverage a few times.

Also it is a common habit to use the initials for someone who has two first names. It seems logical to apply this to asians with two first names as well. However wierdly enough, I was watching the ladies open a few weeks ago and the koreans had their full names on the board.

The first Asian born in Asia. Vijay Singh is ethnically Asian.

South Korea's Y.E. Yang is the 1st Asian to win a major men's golfing tournament. Today he was better than Tiger Woods. Question: Is there an odd number of exceptionally drunk Koreans in the streets in the early afternoon today? The tournament was from 5-8 am KST or so this morning. I have to admit he played amazing and I was rooting for him (the underdog). He held a lead over the best in the world and made some amazing shots showing composure and guts to win it. Way to go Yangster!

I'm happy that Yang won but dreaded the reaction from the Korean media/people. They treat these rare victories as affirmation of some sort of national superiority. Thank goodness I'm in the US where it won't be shoved down my throat!
