Hi. I have an interview today in Asan. Can anyone give me some information about Asan. Like what is there to see and do, site seeing, entertainment, nightlife etc.
And if this is not the place where is there somewhere close that people go out?
Cheers |

Not much going on in Asan, I can tell you that. Some people head over to Cheonan (a 15-30 minute bus/subway ride) for a bit of nightlife. The Cheonan people head to Seoul |

For some reasons I can't PM even though I have well over the minimum of posts - have contacted admin but still waiting for a reply.
Am moving there next week about a 10 min drive from the KTX station - looking at hiking, MTB, good gyms, shopping, leisure activities, where to go outside of Asan, what is close what is there to do. Was there today and only went to the interview and station and already didnt see much but there is a lot of construction but that is everywhere in Korea:) |

Sucks that you can't PM.
If you're going to be in Asan, you gotta buy a car. It's country. I have a car, and I've been so much more happy since.
There are all those things you mentioned, and plenty more. Having a car will help you get there.
In Asan, I go swimming every day. I really like that.
There's an amazing climbing wall here.
There's lots of nature.
There are a few hiking spots I think.
There is lots of camping if you're into that.
Where was your interview?
What area will you be in? The more specific you get, the more I can help you and give you an impression of what your area is like. |

Asan....be sure that you know that it's sometimes known as Onyang! The train/subway station is Onyang-Oncheon, oncheon, meaning hot springs.
There really isn't much IN Asan, but it's SO close to everything, that you won't miss much. Subway is 10 minutes to the KTX (Asan Station), and 32-37 minutes to Seoul Station. Your immigration office is in Daejon, which is less than 15 minutes by KTX.
Oeam Folk Village is nice, there's an E-mart within taxi distance. World Food and Asian Mart downtown have lots of good stuff, as does DC mart (from the T intersection across from the train station, take the 3rd (maybe 4th) left. It's on your right, down the stairs.
If you're looking for Mickey D or BK, ya gotta go to Cheonan...but I've lived in the Asan area for 8 years and I love it!
fortysixyou is right...get a car ASAP!!! You can see so much more that way!!! |

Sun Moon University Asan Campus.
Lovely area and your right I will probably need a car.
Here's another question how do you get a drivers license here? I have one from Oz. |

woo!
Moonies!
You will probably gravitate towards Cheonan rather than Asan. Your address maybe Asan-si, but your reality will be Cheonan-si. I live 10 mins away from you (Asan side), but if I do stuff, it is in Cheonan.
People are right about needing a car here. Make sure you bring an Int'l license and sort out a local one when you get here (you have to take a test if your license in from a left-side driving country). The licensing centre is in Yesan, a short train ride away.
My friend's friend works at your school - I'll ask him about the new Aussie!
Good luck |

You're not going to save much at all if you buy/use a car here. |

Am moving from Seoul so I dont have an international drivers license. My license is Oz but have experience driving here and US. So do I just do down and file out a form and do a driving test? |

You could try to get your license in Seoul before you come down. Then, you'll just have to go to Asan City Hall to change the address on your license.
My husband is from a left-side driving country and all he had to do was leave his license with them. He'll get it back when he leaves for good and turns in his Korean license. You'll need your passport, ARC, a couple of photos and some cash.
Are you going to be working for the uni or a public school? |

Well, you can get a car for a million or less. Car repairs are super cheap. Car insurance is cheap compared to other countries. You'll pay a lot the first year, being a new driver here, but it goes down every year if you have no accidents. I pay about 275,000 for a year. |
