Well it seems I just scored a GEPIK job in Anseong.

Anyone got any info on Anseong...?

How long by bus / train to Seoul...?

I'll be working at Anseong elementary school...? Heard of it / worked there?

Many foriegners to make friends with in Anseong...? At least one decent(ish) bar...?

Anything to do there - shopping / cinema most iportant for me or at least good dvd bangs....

My girlfriend lived there for a while. I grew to like it, but I never really stayed there more than two days. It's kinda spread out and not a whole lot to do from what I saw. No movie theaters, no Starbucks. I don't even remember a McDonald's... there was a Jjimjilbang by the old bus station that had a big gym you could use without paying an extra fee.

Oh yeah, there's a few darn good restaurants around town.

There's a nice lake in the area. "Serendipity" was a cool little book cafe on the lake we went to a few times. Spent all day taking naps, reading books, and talking.

The only ever foreigners I saw there were immigrant workers from SE Asia.

The new Express bus station there is really nice and it's just an hour ride to Seoul.

Oh yeah, and Pyongtaek isn't far from there. I haven't spent much time there either, but there's an Air force base there and a bunch of bars and stuff that cater to the military crowd.

That's about as much as I can say for it. I wouldn't want to live there if I was younger and coming to Korea for the first time, but now that I'm a little older, have been here almost 4 years, and getting sick of riding subway line 2 every day, living out in Anseong sounds downright idyllic.

If you could get a cheap car or a motorcycle it'd probably make a big difference.

Oh, I forgot one thing. Right when the new bus station opened they started construction on a new movie theater and shopping area right next to it... this was like maybe 9 months ago... If in fact it was completed, or will be completed soon, then you'll have your movie theater.

I lived in Anseong for two years.

Anseong vetoed having Everland within its holy county lines. It also got rid of a train station.

Getting to Pyeongtaek is a 1000won bus ride away. Pyeongtaek has a cinema, train station, and shopping mall. Nevertheless, Pyeongtaek is a morass, a rank fen under the stinking armpit of Seoul. At least Anseong has some character.

The downtown is blocked off from car traffic, and the pubs and what not are legion. Ouzo is the traditional orangke stomping grounds, but most of the time you'll only find me there. I will lose - graciously - at a game of darts.

The Jijimi hof also houses an occasional thirsty foreigner - read: me - as well as the Wa Bar. I come to Anseong every weekend to visit old friends and skirt Korean visa regulations. I know how to say Cass in Korean.

Hello,

I am in the same boat as you. I recently got a job teaching in Anseong. I was supposed to be in Bucheon but the teacher at the school there decided to stay another year. Although i can not say i am thrilled about the relocation, i have decided to stay optimistic and take it for what it is. I am 23, straight out of college and am wondering the same same thing: is there anything to do in Anseong? If you are looking for someone to hang out with and/or go to bars and travel, I'd be happy to get in contact.
