Is it true that a TEFL certification opens the door to teach in Europe without having a European passport? I've heard it does...I don't want to keep being limited to Korea and the rest of Asia.

No, it does not. You can have a PhD in Applied Linguistics, and you will still be ineligible to teach in an EU country lacking an EU passport. Czech Republic was an exception but I've heard that's changing. (Even if it was legal you'd live like a pauper in the EU, with only a tefl certificate.)

Thank you. I heard the same thing from someone else. I am just tired of being limited to Asia. I wanted to take a 4 week course for TEFL in Prague. They said they will guarantee you a job, but I guess only in the Czech Republic. I think I'd love living in Prague though. I know the pay isn't as good as Korea, but I have teachin experience and a degree, so I won't just have TEFL. Plus, I don't have very big student loan payments to make either. I'll be happy as long as I can shop and travel aound Europe on weekends and during my time off. There are more places than Korea out there, plus I still haven't spent extensive time in Europe.

I know a lad who did the Czech Rep thing and there wasn't much room for "travelling around Europe on the weekends"... more like two or three times a year. Living debt free too. It's tight there esp if you live in Prague. Depends how you play it though. Also, getting a visa there appears to be tricky now- best look at the Czech forum here. Good luck.
