Anyone know where to purchase Moleskin Notebooks in the Seoul area?
I realize that there are tons of little stationary stores everywhere but the durability and overall quality of every Moleskin product I've ever used has been remarkable. I'd prefer to have a travel-worthy journal with me while I go exploring and can't seem to find them anywhere!
Thanks for the help! |

I am a Moleskine fanatic. I have over 20 of these little books. One for every purpose. Yes, there is a distributor in Korea. No, you do NOT want to buy them from some of the shops around town, why? you ask...because they don't have the extensive and COMPLETE selection that the website has...
Do you want the website address? I'll give it to you if you say "please"
It's Moleskine, btw.

Yeah, Kyobo has a FEW of them, but not ALL of them. |

I was impressed by the Moleskine selection at the Kyobo shop in Seohyeon, Bundang. Even saw the red soft-leather covers there. But I concede that it could have been Moleskine withdrawal that made it so that I was impressed by their selection.
So. Kyobo in Seohyeon, if I'm recollecting correctly, they have a good selection of Moleskines. |

This is the company that imports and distributes to the rest of Korea. They have it all. |

So your choice are find a big stationary store like Work and Hobby in Kyobo book stores or find an alternative or a knockoff.
Also I scoff at people who buy Moleskins. Find a good cheap alternative. Why spend 10 bucks or more in Canada/US or even spend twice that in Korea.

Thanks so much for the helpful replies! I'll certainly be checking out Kyobo before taking off in *gasp* just under two weeks now!
Forward Observer, I appreciate you caving in and giving me the website before I had a chance to say 'please.' That's exactly what I'm looking for! Even so, I'll probably skip ordering online for now as a) I can't quite tell what's what in Korean, b) I'm pressed for time and am being kicked out of my apt in under a week (where would I ship it!?) and c) I really like to get my hands on things before I buy 'em, just, well, because!
Skippy, thanks for your insight but if I can find a soft cover Moleskine for a reasonable price then I'll probably stick with that. |

Any good moleskine alternatives?
How many of you use fountain pens with your moleskines? I find that they really do bring out the text much better. Some moleskines use cheap paper though and you can get a bit of feathering or bleed through. The best paper I've ever used is Clairefontaine. |

Don't understand why some people have to buy things in person. |

Oh please, that is just too damned good. I was actually going to write myself
'So now you've found out where to get a new notebook, we'll see you in Coffee Bean around noon on saturdays with your Apple Laptop, sipping your latte, swathed in an aura of nervous intensity whilst working on your 'screenplay' and looking around furtively to see if anyone has noticed you 'the artisitic one.' Lol. And hey I can say this because I was one of those types at college... And actually I found the feeling of exhibition, drawing that attention to myself in public, did actually stimulate me mentally and procuce ideas, weird huh? I guess it's the tension between needing your private space to think and the fact that there are others possibly invading that privacy that gets you going.
Fromt the link, I f*cking love this -

But the the growing popularity of these little journals, is not without its own set of problems. One of the strangest side effects has been the puzzling situation whereby a white person will sit in an independent coffee shop with a Moleskine notebook resting on top of a Apple laptop. You might wonder why they need so many devices to write down thoughts? Well, if a white person has a great idea, they write it by hand, if they have a good idea, it goes into the computer.
Not only does this help them keep their thoughts organized, but it serves as a signal to the other white people in the shop that the owner of both instruments is truly creative. It screams: Im not using my computer to check email and read celebrity gossip, Im using it to create art. Please ask me about it.
So when you see a white person with one of these notebooks, you should always ask them about what sort of projects they are working on their free time. But you should never ask to actually see the notebook lest you ask the question how are you going to make a novel out of five phone numbers and a grocery list? |

One thing Korea has taught me is what it means for something to be acceptable. I admit that before I came to Korea I was a sucker for the best, the top-of-the-line, of whatever it was I was buying. Now, I ask myself, "will it get the job done?" For me a 1000KRW Morning Glory notebook allows me to write what I need to write just as well as a 27000KRW Moleskine does. But, maybe I'm just not as cool, suave, or interesting as you. But, I find it easier to save money now. |

What is it with some people?
I use the W1,000 Morning Glory notebooks for my journals, too, but so what if someone wants to spend the money for the moleskines? It seems to me, there have been more pretentious remarks and posts from the anti-moleskine posters than the ones who want them, though to read their posts moleskiners (yes, I'm proud I coined the word) are effete poseurs, sitting around coffee shops sipping lattes and wielding Montblancs, but writing nothing.
In the words of that great uniter Rodney King, 'Why can't we all just get along?' |
