I can't seem to find the answer here or elsewhere on the next.
Simple question, but for some reason I haven't seen it asked yet. |

Yes, it is illegal, but not enforced -- especially if it means Koreans getting sued:
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2009/08/117_50078.html
Quote: |
American and Japanese pornography producers have filed a collective lawsuit against 10,000 Korean Internet users for piracy ― but local lawyers are divided over the litigation.
One group of lawyers said their copyright must be protected even though the porn business is illegal here, but other lawyers said the lawsuit does not make sense as the business is not legal in Korea.
[insert: cough, cough, cough]
Police said Thursday that a group of 50 pornography producers in the two countries have filed a lawsuit against the Koreans for allegedly uploading films onto file-sharing Web sites and then charging subscribers to download them........... |

Are you sure?
That article doesn't really state what is illegal (view, possess, distribute).
I've read elsewhere that it is technically legal, but must meet decency standards...
Which is it? |

soft core is legal and everywhere. Watch late night tv and you see nothing but T&A.
Hard core with full penetration is 100% illegal. |

But not enforced. I have a "friend" who frequently views it, and has yet to get arrested. |

It is enforced.
A few years ago a woman was arrested here for doing hard core porn while she was in Canada.
Shops that sell hardcore have been busted before. There is one shop in Itaewon that sells it and they have never been busted, but they don't advertise that they sell it.
Unless police come to your house and see you watching it, how will they know. If you get caught with it, you will be arrested. Don't think for a second that it is not enforced.
The only thing that is not enforced is internet porn. In Thailand the internet company can shut down your account if you download porn, but here they don't do anything like that yet. |

Someone once posted that it was illegal to upload but not illegal to download. My guess is that things like production and distribution of hardcore are illegal and that people who profit from it are targets for prosecution, but the average consumer probably has nothing to worry about. |

It's illegal. So why bring it through customs. You can get all the porn your little heart desires off the internet. |
