Oh damn, I'd been trying to remember the name of a band so I could ask this German girl who likes that kind of music if she'd heard of them. It was Broken Social Scene. Never heard of most of the rest of that but since it's in the list with BSS (and Vampire Weekend) I know I can safely avoid them all. Wink

YouTube doesn't work on this computer anyway. But I'll post some (videos I've never watched)(except for part of the last one) cause I wouldn't want to burn someone else without opening myself up to the same. (Christ I am so bored.)

And One - Sometimes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciLjqjlPfu4

IAMX - Song of Imaginary Beings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3Da6v0IlXc

Spiritual Front - Bastard Angel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mne2YWCE6Cc

Mixture of old and new.

Depeche Mode, Playing the Angel

A pleasantly surprising CD. Their best CD since the early 90's. Of course, followed up by one of their worst.

I think the Shearwater CD, "Rooks" is fantastic. IMO, they could become a great band.

I was listening to The Stooges' "Funhouse" today, and the song "Dirt" is a great song

I think you're right. I actually like all their 90s albums (and Exciter from 2001), but certainly only 40-50% of Sounds of the Universe is any good, whereas Playing the Angel is the sound of a band still at the cutting edge even into a 20+ year career. I strongly suspect the band became impatient - thinking "it's 5 years since our last" and put out a crappy album in consequence. Better to wait 10 years for a classic than release 2 or 3 mediocre albums.

I just listened to "After the Goldrush" and "Harvest."

These are still great albums. His live CD from the 60's that was realeased last year is also great.

Nothing better these days than 'Cortez the Killer' full blast on me i-pod at 3am after a nice drinking sesh, stumbling around the apt with a nice beer buzz and having a ciggie before bed ha ha.

I don't like all his stuff though. In fact these days I pretty much only listen to Cortez, Heart of gold, old man, the needle and the damge done and rocking in the free world now...

But you know, most artists would be creaming themselves to have come up with 5 pieces of material this good....
