I'm in the market for a new laptop and would really like it it come with English wndows, preferably XP, not Vista, but Vista will do.

Does anyone know of any outlets that sell laptops with English windows installed on it?? Is it worht trawling arounf Yongsan and asking a few places?

A lot of places in Yongsan will install English Windows on a new computer; it just won't be a legitimate copy. If you want to go the legal route you'll have to pay for it (somewhere in the 100,000KRW-150,000KRW range).

If you buy a new Vista laptop in Korea, the Vista OS setup will allow you to install in your choice of English or Korean. XP laptops don't have this option and you'll have to choose Korean or English - one or the other.

If you buy a Vista laptop and want XP on it, they will give you a fake copy of XP or you WILL have to buy a legit copy of XP.

You CANNOT install XP over Vista (upgrade, downgrade, or whatever..). You have to delete and reformat the entire hard drive to get XP on a laptop that already has Vista on it. This is not easy to do because of driver issues.

I think it would be possible to order an English OS laptop from Gmarket. I was looking at netbooks on there a while back and saw that a few of them originate in the US. My thinking is that they have to install a Korean OS on them before they ship. If you could talk to the right person maybe you could get one before they wipe it and reinstall Korean XP.

Just a thought. Good luck.
