If you are overseas, and paid in advance for your plane ticket (no refund) after signing a contract, and have now been dropped by SMOE/EPIK or a public school, please post here.

Also, I'd like to do a story on it.

I'd be happy to discuss my story.

I've posted it three times already, so I apologize for the spamming, but here it goes again:

Quote:
I called the consulate directly and they told me that my passport "didn't have enough pages". I asked her if she had it in front of her and she wouldn't give me a straight answer. SHe jsut said she was sending it back.

I then talked to John Kim from ESLSeoul and he told me the same as the others, if you're late for orientation you ahve to wait until march.

So excluding the hundred plus I spent on mailing documents I'm out a grand for the plane tix I'll likely not use.

This is FUBAR.

TO others in the same boat. Don't get down, there's jobs out there. Just keep sending out the apps.

This definitely needs to be publicized. We all know hagwons are notorious for breaking their word, but now you can't even trust a government backed institution. That says something. It's not good for Korea's ESL reputation.

I haven't been dropped, but my recruiter has recently informed me that my public school will be submitting the immigration documents two weeks later than expected. I was told it's because the principal was out on vacation, but it seems strange that no one else would be able to submit the documents...Should I be worried?

I liked your podcast about the labor board.

I deleted this comment that mentioned my recruiter because we subsequently found out it was SMOE who was the bad guy in this and they forced recruiters to cut 100 out of 600 TESOLers already recruited.

Here's the funny thing. SMOE just sent me an email today stating they are still short on teachers and need people to start ASAP.

I wouldn't take this sitting down if it happened (happens?) to me. I forfeited other job offers to take a position with SMOE.

People with visas, signed contracts, and plane tickets in hand need to be contacting the labor board.

I'm not sure I want to work for an organization that behaves like this. Then again I'd probably be doing them a favor if I didn't show.

I wonder if employment is going to be on a probationary basis during the orientation.
