I looked high and low for this last year, couldn't find it. Every Korean I talked to said they hadn't seen it in Korea and only eaten it in Thailand or another country. The conclusion was reached that maybe it was one of those fruits the government doesn't let in. Anyway, today I was at the market and found it. It was marked "domestic". Maybe they're growing it down on Jeju this year. So if you like it, have a look around. It wasn't marked with any Korean name, so I have no idea what the Korean name of it is.

Cost me 5500 for a big'un. kind of expensive compared to the ones I got in Canada, but for only one or two, I guess it wasn't bad.

apparently the korean word for it is yong-gwa (dragonfruit) from the chinese symbols. 용과. Some people might know this fruit as pitaya.

That's insane. I recall big ones being something like 5RMB in China, sold at all markets/supermarkets.

In season I used to get them around $2 CAD for a decent sized one. I don't know if this is season now or if I just missed them earlier in the year.
Its a new product as far as I know. They're grown on Jeju according to the sticker and I expect the price to be a little high until they get the industry established.

For buying a couple a year, it isn't bad. If I was going to eat them everyday it'd be another story. They had boxes of 5 or 6 there but I couldn't find a price on them.
