I have read a few articles and post that are saying its getting more difficult to obtain a teaching job in korea? Are you guys that are in korea finding this to be true? Any stories to share concearning this or thoughts?

Post your resume on ESLCAFE and see what comes your way. As you can see in the job page here, there is lots posted. I can't say what it would be like for a new teacher, but if you are an experienced teacher you shouldn't have a problem.

At this point, it's so bad that people are going through the hoops to get a visa, providing criminal record checks, probably health checks, and paying their own ticket in advance, only to find their job canceled 24 hours before they were supposed to come to Korea. Some people are out-of-pocket for fronting the ticket money and having it canceled. You can read the threads on here right now.

That's how bad things are.

Personally, if I were a new person, I don't know if I'd bother coming to Korea at the moment.

Is this more to do with public schools in the Seoul area?
Are hogwons experiencing the same problems?
What if you are willing to take a job that is not in a major city or possibly a suburb?

I have never had a problem getting work. Some people are being particular with the work they do (eg, only working for SMOE).

I hope Asmith's dramatic claim is not true. While life is little fun being tethored to a job, it's even less fun not having funds to live on. In recent years back home, employers simply haven't been offering much, because they are managing for short term profits by cutting costs any way they can, but this cycle is not a sustainable one like developing people for careers is that allows long term profits. Most executives are focused on short term gains to get a few million and get the heck out of dodge to the easy living lifestyle, leaving a big fat mess for everyone left behind. Salaried management positions are very stressful due to executive staff placing many pressures on you to cut corners any way possible which involves cut throat tactics like firing people a week before they would be eligible for unemployment benefits and then demanding a co-worker to do 2 jobs using intimidating tactics. Things must change...

How are people with 1+ years experience affected by the current situation?

I feel that there are so many inexperienced teachers trying to come to Korea at the moment that it would be pretty easy for someone with even a year experience to find a job. Not sure if this is true though.

Just curious as to what it will be like when I'm looking for a new contract this winter.

It hasn't been much of a problem for people looking for work outside of Seoul & Busan. There's a whole country out there, people.
