Salary- there is no salary the first 3 months. After 3 months, the salary will then be $25k. You will get great experience and learn how to take a case from inception through trial. You will get to handle your own caseload. Expect trial experience within 9 months of start date. |

Bummer man. Then again it is Manhattan. Is there any place with more lawyers per capita? |

Not interested. I thought about it, but, then again, I couldn't find funding for law school! For an extra year or so, just do a Ph.D. and be sure to research the funding options through the department before you agree to start up. |

Private law schools are scams, yes. You pay more for what will result in the same degree.
My guess is this guy thinks the trial experience is worth the lack of income. He's wrong, you'd have trial experience within less than 3 months of starting JAG Corps. But then again, it doesn't matter, because there are those at the bottom half of the class who will apply for this job and STILL BE REJECTED. |

Though, it isn't all that different for most post-sec education now. I've kept up with most of my friends who have gone on to grad school to study IR or politics etc. So many people spend tens of thousands of dollars to obtain degrees that do not develop employment skills and end up in call centers and similar. |

Extremely profitable decision if you can graduate in the top 10% of your class from a top 50 school. |

I think this subject has been beaten to death on jdunderground.com. Basically you have to get in one of the top 15 law schools. Otherwise you will not get a job. America is oversaturated with lawyers. Even with the top schools I hear now you have to be in the top 20% to guarantee yourself something.
Yet...people still go to law school without thinking about job prospects. People just can't wrap their minds around the fact you wont be employed as a lawyer.
Yes it's a scam now. Everyday new diploma mill schools are opening and dumb lemmings keep flocking to them.

I still think there is room for ambitious young lawyers who will be awarded on merit rather than the name on their diploma. This might require toiling at the bottom for several years making $50k and struggling to pay off loans
Having a J.D. from an average school doesn't guarantee you anything anymore though.
I've seriously considered law school for a couple years but I will not be able to get into a top 15 (or even 25 school) based on practice LSAT scores so I am giving it some serious thought and considering other grad school options (MBA, M.Ed)
I am young and the type of person that can see myself in a number of industries so I don't see myself going to law school until I am 100% certain. |

clockout, you are assuming you'll get a 50k starting. The lawyers I hear of on jdunderground.com are talking about 40k, 35k. Many say they can't get a job at all. There are lawyers doing construction work, working at the bank, going to teacher's college.
Let's say you really do magically have a 50k job waiting for you when you get out of Tier 2~4 law school. How are you going to buy a house, get a car, afford a woman while paying off 200K i loans exactly?
This discussion is one we shouldn't even be having. The verdict has been out on this for a while now. It's a scam. Don't take my word on it, go on jdunderground forums and ask the law graduates yourself. |
