A folk metal fan I see. You should have Moonsorrow and Ensiferum on this list too then, maybe the originators, Skyclad, too. I'll see if I can think of any more recommendations. Maybe Horna and Einherjer, too. |
Oh yes I do like Moonsorrow and Ensiferum (in fact I can't believe i didn't put one of their songs up there, as Ensiferum is my user name on various other websites)
I haven't heard of horna, But I shall check them out.. I don't like einherjer or skyclad that much. |
Do you like Amorphis? While I'm more a fan of their older stuff, their new album "Skyforger" is decent enough. I'm more a fan of black/thrash/doom though, Windir ftw! |
I've tried to like Amorphis but I just can't get into them, I have liked so many different sub-genres in the past, the worst of which has been nu-metal and rap-metal
I don't mind a bit of thrash myself, i'm trying to get hold of a korean thrash bands music, they are called Crash.
the bands which I haven't listed who I like to listen to are, Kreator, Slayer, Iced Earth, Pantera, At the Gates, Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards, Static-X, Rob/White Zombie, Manowar, Hammerfall, Scar Symmetry, Soilwork, Tyr, Wintersun, Dragonforce, Godsmack, Devildriver, Fear Factory(pre 2000), Alestorm, Grave Digger, Dark Tranquility, In Flames (pre 2006), Sentenced .. that's all I can think of right now, but I have been into many others in the past. It all depends on my mood |
Cool. For thrash though, two essential albums spring to mind: Dark Angel - Darkness Descends, and Sadus - Illusions (Chemical Exposure) - seriously insane thrash.
Other bands I can safely recommend are Windir, Impaled Nazarene, Aura Noir, and obviously Bathory. |

Anyone that doesn't recognize the glory of the first 6 Bathory albums and Blood On Ice, Nordland I and Nordland II is seriously lacking any taste in music whatsoever. |

Godflesh is cool.
I think Hymns is one of the best metal albums of the 2000s. Some of the songs are too long. The album needs 10-15 minutes chopping off perhaps, but nevertheless, that's definitely the kind of metal vibe that goes down well with me. |

The Return was a seminal masterpiece, as was Under the Sign, I really liked Hammerheart but after that it went quite downhill.
I've seen some so called Metal being posted here, so I thought I'd post some of the, if not THE heaviest, loudest noise ever made complements of the mighty Godflesh.
I'm quite happy with my muscial taste by the way, and that's the only person who is important on that front. |

Your winding me up right? Gutworm are much heavier than them fruitbats who you claim are the "heaviest, loudest noise ever made"

Sounds like typical modern metal, just loud, not very heavy.
Godflesh has an album called Streetcleaner. That CD played loudly IS the heaviest thing ever recorded. It has real power and density in its sound.
Don't confuse raw and heavy.
Raw/heavy bands like Obituary and Bolthrower wipe the floor of any of todays stuff. I think most metal sucks, just loud noise but some has real melody and good riffs.
I feel like a teenager again talking about this. I don't listen to much metal anymore, when you get old you don't like people screaming at you anymore. |

Alice in Chains-Dirt
The Black Keys
ZZ Top
and I actually have gotten to like some of the Killers stuff. Odd for me.
I love Gov't Mule but man does their last album really get way off track. |

| Always love it when I hear there are other Replacement fans out there! This is the one band I wish more people listened to. |

The new Arctic Monkeys is pretty ace ... also loving:
GirlTalk
Tegan and Sara
Santigold
Lykke Li
The National (biggest obsession)
Lil' Wayne (can't help it!)
MGMT
Kind of girlie compared to the metal stuff, but solid nonetheless. |
