how do teachers usually dress? i saw a website with some pics of there teachers and they all looked pretty informal in their dress, don't know what they think of earings in south korea. my recruiter said to send a "very professional" picture for my resume.

public school?

Anything you want especially if you are female. Males generally wear slacks and anything from an untucked casual shirt to a shirt and tie. I usually wear slacks and a tucked in dress shirt. Never worn a tie. I've been known to wear jeans and tennis shoes though.

hagwon?

Ask your boss.

obviously you want your resume photo to look as formal as possible

and your first day (or week) of work you should probably dress pretty nice

after that just follow office norms

im wearing a graphic tshirt, jeans and socks featuring a cartoon version of one of the singers from 2ne1. i basically look like the high schoolers im teaching, lol. one of my female coteachers whos just a few year olders than me was also wearing a tshirt and jeans. i think the younger you are the more casual u can be. though i will say the older people are still pretty casual. only my principal wears a suit.

what others said

obviously for resume you want a fairly professional pic , although mine really wasn't all that much. In the US one doesn't include pic with a resume, it'd probably be illegal to require one Very Happy

follow the norms for at least the first several weeks, if anything err on side of overdress/caution

this basically means office casual. Wear khakis and a collared shirt.
This can be your basic outfit for the entire year.

I'm fairly sure no one will care if you wear jeans and a t-shirt.. I've done it on occassion but I try not to make it a habit. (observe what other teachers wear, the females at our schools can wear jeans for e.g.)

re earrings, do you mean plural? or one earring?

in my case I have one in my left ear and was told upon coming that the principal didn't care if I wore it - it's something I brought up in my interview with handler, I actually fully expected to have to take it off, I had to do it when teaching in a different country at a private institute and it was a pain in the behind. Being able to wear it in Korea was a welcome surprise (but this will depend on your school/principal)

generally speaking from what I've seen ps's are quite tolerant in terms of how their wannamins dress.
