I was told to come back to school today... after getting Mon and Tue off, but the handler/vp informed me at lunchtime that the provincial office of education - aka gepik has issued an official edict telling returning vacationing net's to stay home all week.
so I guess I'll be doing a lot of sleeping this week Hoo-ah! |

The question is... Will you still get paid? |

This self-quarantine is a ministry of education initiative. Credit where its due, they are trying to cushion foreign teachers (& themselves) from blame when the flu does take hold.
If you ask immigration what their policy is, its (correctly) that if you're asymptomatic you're not infectious. But the MOE rules rule.
I really hope that gloating slackers dont take public advantage of this. Last thing the image of foreign teachers needs is to be seen conniving to exploit this, or worse, celebrating it. As if Koreans need more evidence that foreigners dont take their jobs seriously. |

This is why I didn't want to go on vacay. It's not fair to my co-teacher. |

means that if you returned to Korea from your vacation this last weekend before school started, or basically any time before 7 days had passed before your return, then you're to stay away from school.
I walked around today poking teachers with my fingers and then saying "you're infected"
my vp thinks the POE is overreacting, but he's not about to buck the system, he has nothing to gain and much to lose.
my school knows I was ready to come in to work on Monday, but I'm not going to complain about being told to stay home - besides, I like sleeping late!
kabrams, I have no idea what that means exactly re fairness to co-teachers, I'm sure they deal with a lot more "unfair" things daily at school.
I'm not about to subject my very PRECIOUS vacation to Korean swine flu fears (albeit I understand their concern and caution).
just came back from a soju filled dinner (a guy got promoted to vp, I'm on very good terms with him, he said he'll invite me to the school when the current net's contract expires )
then went for more drinking and ultimately wound up in a noreabang (alas with no female company) . This means I had some very drunk Koreans trying to grind into me during the singing, and another guy literally grabbed my butt cheeks and pressed himself against me.
it's a good thing I understand "Korean culture" and didn't take this personally but needless to say I felt a bit uncomfortable. |
